Hi, Today we found a double pink raggy type lump about the size of a finger nail each and of course what immediately comes to mind is that the cancer has spread to his mouth and that this is the cause of his pain. I guess another trip to the vet will happen tomorrow.

I have tried inserting an imagine but can’t.

OK I know this is so hard but try not to think the worst. I can't begin to tell you how many times we have done that and it's turned out to be nothing serious. Is he eating and drinking? If so that is a good sign that this not a big issue.

Feel free to message me and I'll post your pic for you OK?

Deep  breaths.....inhale deeply .and sleeply..exhale deeply and slowly.... over and over.

Agree with Jerry.  The Gabapentin  and Tramadol  work hand in hand.  The Tramdo a,one is not. Early as effective.  And abs, the patch makes a dog a lot more whacked than Gabapentin.   At the most. Gaba may make a dog a little sleepy.  And a little rest  Is always a good thing.  And it is the go to for phantom  pain.

Of course, not a Vet and not giving Bet advice,  but based on all of the recoveries here, Gabapentin is the most often used and  most effective  pain med .  So please review ll Jerry's links and advocate for a different med approach  with your  Vet.

Right now you are in the recovery phase that can often be "What have I done TO my dog?"

I Joined this community  on. Day six after my Happy Hannah's surgery.  The thread title was something like "it's day six and I fear  I have made a horrible decision!"   This great community  threw me a liffeline, gave me great tips, med suggestions s  took me out of panic mode.  I will say, it took me at east three weeks before I felt like I could FINALLY say I did this FOR my Hapoy Hannah!!!

Conti ue massages, go sloooow and easy.  It's still early in recovery.

Keep us posted. hang on to our lifeline.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!

Ferris is doing much better since my last post the swellings in his mouth were diagnosed by the vet to be mouth ulcers and that they were caused by him biting his gums. My worst fears proved to be unfounded and I thank god for this.

We are currently looking for some form of device to help keep him balanced, much like a false leg or wheel, will keep you all updated through the week.

WHEW! We thank dog too!

The balance issue can be helped with a physio rehab therapist. A device will not help him get stronger, but the right kind of exercise will. Don't forget to take advantage of the Tripawds Foundation rehab reimbursement grant, remember we can pay for your first rehab visit .

Biting his gums?   That Ferris sure is keeping you on your toes!  While I didn't think he had any really serious issue with his mouth, it didn't occur to me that biting  his gums would be the cause......and we are glad to hear it!!!

Misr curious how he's doing  mobility wise and why you think he needs a "device"?   As ,Jerry said, the Tripawds Foundation   will pay for the first visit with a Rehabilitation  Specialist.   Their knowledge  is invaluable  when it comes to helping Tripawds with their gait, balance, etc.

Give that big boy a smooch  for us😘

We had great news today from our vet specialist regarding the tests of Ferris’s lymph nodes.  Not a cancer cell to be seen the vet couldn’t believe it.

He further went on to say that we have completely changed his opinion on amputation of large dogs and will be asking far more questions than he did before.  This was the same guy who phoned up while Ferris was on the scan table telling us that his leg looked like a honey comb riddled with cancer and that we should put him to sleep.

Thank god I found this site and decided to have his leg removed and now others with giant breed dogs in our area may benefit from the information gained from you guys. Thank You

Oooooh! This makes me so happy!!!! All it takes is one dog like Ferris and everything changes for the better for many to follow. You deserve so much credit for following your gut instinct and proceeding. You are as courageous as your big boy!

If you'd like to share our free brochures with your vet, fill out the form and we will get them to you:
