Hello, I am new to your site although I have been lurking for awhile.  We are adopting a Tripawd named Bella from a rescue in AZ.  She is a yellow lab almost three years old.  She fell out of a jeep in Sept. and her owners never took her into the vet to address her injured leg.  For the next seven months she suffered as she tried to walk on it.  It got to the point in March that she started eating her own foot.  Her owners just tried to cover where she was eating so she would stop.  Finally they decided that they had to do something and did not want to fix her leg so they turned her into a rescue.  Our rescue (which I happen to volunteer with) got her on a Friday and had the leg amputated on Monday.  The vet said if the injury would have been addressed at the time it happened, she would not have lost her leg.  It was her front left.

So it has been about eight weeks since amputation and she is a new dog.  The pictures of her from before and after are incredible.

We were actually about to adopt another tripawd but it did not work out and Bella became available the next day.  I had already researched tripawds here and had spoken to my vet about care and prognosis and such and felt comfortable adopting one.  When I heard that Bella was available, we spoke to her foster and decided she might be a match for our family.  We met her with our dog Niko and loved her instantly.  She is a joyous, sweet girl.  We will get her in about nine days as we had a little trip planned and decided that we should wait until afterwards.

My husband and I have four kids between 5 and 11 and our yellow lab Niko and now Bella.  I am looking forward to being a part of the group and to sharing info and stories!  Thanks for having this community available for people like me as it made the decision to adopt so much easier as I learned so much here!

Hi Jeannie,

Welcome to tripawds.  You and your family are awesome for adopting, and extra gold stars for taking in what some consider to be a handicapped dog.  But we here know better- tripawds are not handicapped- just super special!

Since you have been 'lurking' you probably have a good idea of the information available here.  And you are getting a 'finished' tripawd and yea for no cancer to deal with!!!!

You will have to post pictures of the pack when Bella gets to her new home.

p.s your future posts will not need to wait for moderation.

Hi Jennine!  Glad to see you finally come out of the closet!

It is great to see a tripawd that doesn't have the cancer journey, so we likely will see Bella for years to come. Hopefully Tripawds will be come your second home.

Jennine and I have been communicating for a while.  She will be receiving Trouble's harness for Bella.  I'm thrilled it will be going to help a 'special' rescue dog. And it comes embellished with hair!

Thanks for joining, and bless you for saving Bella! Coincidentally, the Bella's Hot/Cold Pain Relief Pack is named after a three legged Great Dane called Bella! You can read Bella's story in the Tripawds News blog .

You may also find Jerry's Required Reading List helpful, if you haven't already bookmarked that. Looking forward to hearing about Bella's homecoming!

Oh my gosh what a story. Agggh! Some people should be banished from having animals for LIFE! Our Tripawds Spokesdawg Wyatt Ray has a similar tale to tell.

We're so hoppy you made the move to adopt her and give her the loving home she deserves. How totally COOL that she will be wearing Trouble's harness, it has superpowers you know!

Thanks for posting and saying hello. It will be great to have you here so that other Dane-loving pawrents can find the hope and inspawration they so badly need when the hear the dreaded "amputation" word. Welcome!

It is great that you adopted a Great Dane. My mother recently adopted a Harlquin/Blue Merle Great Dane from Animal Control.

I agree some people should never ever have any kind of animal whatsoever. Our Great Dane, Zoe, was  found roaming a neighborhood. She only weighed about 85 pounds and had a small collar with a piece of rope on her. Well we talked with Animal Control and a woman that lived near where Zoe was originally from said "They don't need that dog back. They hardly fed her and had her tied on a jump rope."

Thank you all for the welcome!   I will post pics as soon as I get my laptop fixed.  That is where I have my pics and camera hook up.  Hopefully I will get it back within a week!

Bella is doing fabulously!  We have learned so much about what Tripawds CAN do!  She amazes us.  First of all, once she sees a bird, she runs faster than any four legged dog out there.  I learned that the hard way when she suddenly bolted and I was chasing her around the park grounds in my high heeled flip flops.  I am sure I looked foolish!

I am thankful her previous owners turned her in to get the surgery and to be adopted.  It would have taken longer if she would have been turned into a pound anonymously.  Thankfully they contacted our rescue and gave us all the paperwork and contact for  her vet so we could see what had been done to that point and act quickly.

She is the sweetest, most loving dog ever.  We are so blessed to have her.
