We just found out our 9 year Snoop has osteosarcoma in his right front. We were told our options for him and what we could possibly expect. We are overwhelmed by the news. After we got home we began hunting for information that may help us navigate our way through this. We were told he is an excellent candidate for amputation and chemo. His health up to this point has been excellent and he is a very active dog, with a beautiful temperament. Can anyone help us with chemo information in regard to the chemo drugs, and also with diet change and the use of essiac tea.

Hi Snoop......sorry you had to come but however this is the best place to be if you have to go through this!!

Yes, it's overwhelming, frightening, terrifying, confusing and more!! Once you catch your breath and have a chance to gather information, you will become far more confident and at peace with your decision. Snoop does, indeed, sound like a great candidate and certainly has the zest for life and no intention of doing anywhere soon!

After you have a chance to review everything, please let us know how we can help. The surgery is major and recovery is hard to "watch" the first many days and nights. The ability to walk will amaze you at how quirky they adapt. Once recovery takes place........some dogs quicker than others but recovery DOES take place------the joy and happi ESS your Snoop will experience makes it all worthwhile:-) :-) :-)

Wishing you the very best and look forward to hearing back from you.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hi Snoop. You have found the best place online to help you through this. We found out exactly 2 weeks ago today that our 8 year old collie had osteosarcoma in her left front leg. She had surgery that Friday to amputate that leg. She is now 10 days post op and is doing great. She has a clearer look to her eyes that has not been there in a while.

Use this website and forum to ask and answer any and all questions. It saved my sanity.

We have not opted for chemo, but are still on the fence a bit and will be following this thread to find out what you do.

Good luck.

Hi Esther, it was nice chatting with you the other night, I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this. It does sound like Snoop would do fine on three legs. For us, the biggest thing we did to help save our sanity was to take things one step at a time. Learn about amputation, then deal with chemo. When is your oncology consultation? If you have one set up, these questions to ask your oncologist can help.

Thanks again for joining, we look forward to helping you out any way we can.

Welcome and sorry about your diagnosis. You are not alone in feeling overwhelmed, but hope you can find some help here to ease some of the anxiety. There are so many different treatments and drugs - a vet/oncologist are the pros so can tell you what best you will need. Here you can find how dogs have responded to the different things and the side effects they have experienced. Take a deep breath and know you are not alone.

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
