You absolutely are a fantastic Advocate who is very, very well informed on Gteyhounds.

Regrettably, in part because you've had quite a few  "ssues"with the health of some of your Greyhounds.  And when it comes to the health  of your dogs and their well being, sharing  information  asking questions, etc doesnt have to be necessarily "tactful", just effective!

We'll continue sending prayersand pawsitive healing energy to your sweet Allen. And yes, he just might like getting all this love and attention, especially being away from home.

Thanks for keeping is updated.  I know you and Richare exhausted,  bite appreciate the updates.

((((((((Hugs))))))))

And so tragic about the Greytswho went in for simple surgery by an uninformed Bet

Keeping you in my thoughts and sending hugs your way. I hopped in to see what was new and found this. I know we don't know each other very well, but I remember reading your blog (quite a while back) and all about your journeys. I hope things have finally turned around for the better for all of you. Will keep an eye for an update sp_hearticon2

Good news!  Got a call from the overnight nurse first thing this morning.  She was bonding with Allen last night.  With his mental health being my greatest concern, I really do hope he was able to get some comfort from her.   He ate everything she offered him.  He's able to pee and poop just fine.

He will be able to come home this evening.  He still has a fentynal patch on but that is only good for another 24 hours I believe.  They put it on Sunday afternoon.  All other pain meds have been oral.  His amicar is back to oral.  Everything is looking good.

SOOOO.  HAPPY. TO. READ. THIS!!!!👏👏👏   Huge sigh of relief  for all of us, especially  you and Rich😎    Keep us posted on the homecoming.

Maybe the small  silver lining  in all this is he is leaning  to be more comfortable  with accepting "comfort".

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Thank goodness, that is the best news sp_hearticon2 If he ate everything offered then it appears she was able to comfort him 🙂  It is amazing how they "know" the good ones, eh?  I hope the homecoming is wonderful this time, fingers, toes, tails and paws crossed for you!

I know you have so much on your plate AND I know you are so well informed on Turkey Tail etc

And that leads me to his. When you have a second coud you  hop over to this linkand share what brand you've used and any other helpful  info on it?

https://tripawd.....-for-coco/

And make no mistake about it,  when you share the knowledge  you've  gained with the Greyts, we pass it on. So you are constantly helping others even if you don't know it!

Hope you re having  a restful night.  I'm sure Allen is glad to be home.  Hopefully the patch won't  make him too whacky.

Hugs

Well, if this picture is any indication of how he feels, he looks pretty darn relaxed and comfortable. And he's a very handsome boy too.

Oh my ❤️ be still!!! What a gorgeous boy🥰🐾

He doesn't look the least bit distressed and it looks like they did a top notch job on that surgery!!

So glad he's home and contentedly resting❤️ Grayt job mama.... you deserve a lot of credit taking care of your baby the way you are ((( hugs)))❤️  It takes special people to do what you and your husband do.  I have always had a soft spot for Greyhounds, they are a special breed.  The closest I've ever come to having one as a family member were the Afghans that i did rescue/ foster with.

Wishing some peaceful,  restful nights ahead❤️

Thank you Jackie.   Some of that calm was was him happy to be home and some was the fentanyl patch!

Last night was a difficult one.   Allen had horrible gas from the prescription food he was on.  Emphasis on was.  I remember with Nixon I had to give him gas x quite a bit to keep him comfortable and it was something I learned on the bone cancer list.  Now I cannot remember why it was recommended.  I asked the vet if we could try that with Allen and she hadn't heard of gas x for amputees.  We put him back on his old food but soaked a few minutes in warm water a d lots of little meals.

Allen started panting in a really scary way around midnight and the ER wanted us to bring him back in but they had a four hour wait at least so we tried treating him at home.  We increased his gabapentin and he seems more comfortable.

Tonight we got to remove the fentanyl patch.  Not fun at all.

Today is also Leo's 14th birthday so cheeseburgers, hold the bun, for everyone.

I forgot to mention Allen is learning to be a sdiva.  I have to say I feel like my house is full of dogs right now with Nixon and Kitty here in spirit teaching Allen how to ask/demand help.

The picture above is Allen wanting his ice pack.  He wiggles his stump at me to say right here human.

We are so tired that we are falling asleep anywhere we sit.  I remember this and the vet having to take Nixon  for a few hours so I could shower and eat.

That is a beautiful Diva pose if ever I saw one sp_hearticon2 It would not surprise me at all if some of that gas is from being under anesthesia too. All of those drugs, plus fasting for the procedure slows the system down so much. You were all over it though, that was a great idea to soak the food and feed him small amounts. You mentioned your Angels, and I can visualize his cheering squad routing him on to make sure he got the whole Diva routine down correctly!

Have you taken turns getting some naps in? I know you aren't going to rest until you know Allen is out of the woods completely, but you also know that with both of you there, one of you can always wake the other if something seems off. You have to take care of yourselves too... don't forget that!

Wow.. 14!! Happy birthday Leo! I can't think of a better way to celebrate 14 sp_hearticon2

I don't remember how many days it has been since the surgery, and if I scroll back I will lose my post, but it seems like you are right around the corner for brighter days ahead. I remember from others how sensitive the Greys are to anesthesia and bleeding... it's so scary. Like they are made out of totally different material than any other dogs. You guys are all over it though. Allen has no idea how lucky he is (yet). He has the best pawrents a Greyhound could ever ask for sp_hearticon2

Hey Ingrid! How is he doing today? I missed your last update. That post of him allowing you to ice him is incredible. We've never had a dog who was so willing to do cold therapy. What a good boy!

I hope you and Rich were able to get some rest, and that things are good.
