Thanks so much for all the birthday wishes friends  She had a great birthday weekend with lots of treats and she even got a new bed. I also wanted to share a video from her swimming class yesterday. We got a new "water park" for dogs here in OKC and she's been going for a couple of months now. She isn't able to do a whole lot of running around and can't walk far without getting too tired so she is not able to be as active as she would like. Her remaining hind leg had two previous knee surgeries which has led to arthritis and a lot of pain & weakness so her body just can't keep up with her mind unfortunately. She also hates her wheelchair because she's a stubborn girl so I'm super thankful for this place. Swimming has been an excellent form of exercise and has helped her tremendously. She wears a life jacket to help keep her afloat but she's a really great swimmer. She is able to swim by herself now without any assistance. Hi friends.. 

I'm really sad to say I am back with bad news. 

Two months ago Izzi started having trouble walking and that's when we found the aforementioned elbow dysplasia. We saw no signs of anything else on her X-rays so we were relieved. Unfortunately we were so very wrong. Izzi has been steadily declining with many odd symptoms and her shoulder area had begun to swell. This is all so reminiscent of last December when we found her spleen tumor after a clear checkup that October. So I just couldn't shake the feeling that we missed something again this time. She went back to the vet on Monday for further tests.She had blood work and a new X-ray to check out the puffy shoulder. The X-ray shows that everything has drastically changed in the past two months. She now has 2 or 3 nodules in her lungs and her upper arm bone appears to be completely consumed with cancer which explains the swollen shoulder and severe pain. I am devastated to say the least. I knew this would happen eventually but I still wasn't prepared. I also never expected it to explode so quickly like this. She is on tramadol and neurontin for pain and she's trying to get around but she is definitely hurting and it's breaking my heart. Izzi has been my best friend for 11 years and the thought of losing her is debilitating. I don't know how much time she has left but I fear it isn't long at all. I hope we get to enjoy one last Christmas together because opening presents is one of her favorite things. I plan to start celebrating now and making sure she gets lots of squeakers. Hopefully we can keep her comfortable for a little while longer... Anyway... Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on. Thank you all for all of your support and kindness over the years. We couldn't have done it without you.

I just wanted to drop by and let everyone know Izzi went to heaven last Thursday. She went to sleep peacefully in my arms at home in her favorite bed. It was an incredibly painful and difficult decision for me to make but she was in so much pain and it was time. She put up a hell of a fight for 900 days and I just couldn't ask her to fight any longer. I took off work so we could spend her last week together, lounging around, eating lots of treats, and going for strolls in her wagon. Luckily on Wednesday we had a beautiful sunny day so we were able to spend some time at the park laying in the grass. Nothing is the same without her and I'm going to miss her everyday, forever. Thanks so much to each of you for all of your support over the years. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to follow her journey and share your advice, support, and encouragement.
