Hello.  Does anyone know of a site where you can find used canine wheelchairs or plans to build your own?  Or - by chance does anyone have one they'd be willing to sell for a 110# black lab with a right rear amputation? TIA

Hi Rebeka, welcome! Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

I'm so glad you asked this question. The reason is because we don't recommend putting your dog in any wheelchair until you meet with a canine rehabilitation therapist. These folks understand canine physiology. They can help you find out why or even if your dog needs a wheelchair , then come up with a plan to help your dog either use it, or strengthen up so he doesn't need one.

The best part is that Tripawds Foundation can pay for your first rehab visit ! Up to $200 is available to have your dog evaluated by a professional.

There are many reasons why you shouldn't put your dog in a wheelchair without expert guidance. The wrong size, balance, style, can all throw off your dog's balance, force him to compensate to move in it, and make mobility worse.

Here are some articles that explain:

Tell us more about your pup! Would love to learn their story. Is s/he having mobility issues now?
