My 8 yr old Boxer mix is a rear leg amputee (approx 5 yrs ago) and barely has a stump. He now needs a total hip replacement on his other leg so I'm obviously going to need a good support harness. Can someone recommend the best one for this situation ? Or do you have experience with a particular one ? Thanks All !!

Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not require moderation.

I had a small rear leg tri-pug.  I used the Ruff-wear webmaster harness for her- but not that much because she didn't like it.  My quad pug Obie just went through knee surgery and I used a Web master for him and it worked very well.

I don't have experience with other harnesses- but you can check out Harness Options in our Gear Blog.

What is your pups name?  Why did he have an amputation?  Of course we would love to see pictures!

Bless you and your pup for staying strong and committed to doing whatever needs to be done for a long, healthy, happy life full of move!

As you've seen from Karen, there are great links for support harnesses.

Just want our to know we are all sending you supportive energy and we are all here for you if we can help in anyway:-) :-)
Once recovery takes place, I know he will feel sooooooo much better!

Keep in touch, Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Thanks Karen, Salley & Happy Hannah :) I'm a foster home in PA, he was my foster and I fell in love with his sweet but stubborn disposition and just had to keep him. He was attacked by a coyote while tied to a dog box in west virginia. Apparently he was pretty tore up and his leg was mangled so there was no option but to remove it at the hip. Obviously, he's a fighter and I know he'll get through this too. I just want the best harness to be sure he gets the most support from me. I was looking at the webmaster but it didn't look like it would be supportive enough in the back. He's basically going to be legless in the back for a few days :(

Thanks again and pic coming soon !

Hi Denise & Odie, welcome to Tripawds.

Odie sounds like a real fighter. Thank you for adopting him and giving him a great home. You may want to read about Murphy's THR surgery in this ongoing discussion:

Total Hip Replacement after rear leg amputation

We wrote an article that might help you decide: Which harness is right for my dog?

I'm thinking the AST Get a Grip would be your best bet for that kind of recuperation. It's a great harness and provides lift exactly where you need it, right under the ribcage.
