Hi everyone-
I have some sad news – we lost Smokey tonight :(. I'm still feeling rather numb but also restless and trying to keep busy. Yesterday he had the most amazing day – super hyper, happy, tail wagging non stop. But then today he seemed off and as I watched him throughout the day, I noticed a lot of drooling. Tonight we went to let him outside and he toppled over in the grass and didn't want to get up. I'm actually down at my parents for the holiday in Southern Oregon and we had to rush him to the vet hospital in Medford, which is about 20-30 minutes away from us here in Grants Pass.
My mom and I were with him until the very end. Everyone at the Southern Oregon Vet Hospital was so great – such a much better experience than I ever had at the vet hospital up in Clackamas, outside of Portland. Given I always had bad experiences with them I was afraid it would be another, but they definitely proved me wrong. We were very well taken care of.
I just can't believe my boy is gone. But I have to thank Jerry because if it weren't for this website, we wouldn't have been here 27 months later post amputation.
Thank you everyone who has supported us and been there with us.
I didn't get a chance to know you or Smokey but my tears are coming never the less. I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad to read that right up until the last day he was tail wagging. Smokey and your family will be in our prayers today.

I am so sorry Smokey's journey has ended. Wow, 27 months is a long time. You were blessed with many days of making great memories before you had to say goodbye. My heart is with you today as you begin your life without your wonderful friend. May those happy memories soon replace the pain you feel today.

Brett said it so very well. Words cannot express just how sorry we are to hear that Smokey's journey has come to a conclusion, but hope that you can accept our deepest sympathy at this very difficult time. Twenty seven months is testiment to the great fight that you waged, but also to the wonderful life that you shared. However, I also understand that twenty seven months was far too short for all of you. I hope that the ability to have such a great day the day before is of some comfort to you now. Please know that you will never be totally without Smokey for the gifts that he gave you will live with you forever.
Praying for the day when you will be able to remember Smokey with a smile for he is still with you.

I'm so sorry that Smokey's time here had to end. With the others, I hope the good memories will begin to fill in the hole that's in your life right now.
Hugs with tears

Our hearts are broken with yours at the loss of your brave, beautiful boy, Smokey. Twenty seven months is quite a milestone achievement and gift in this journey, but as Cherry's Dad said, 'it was still far too short for you' and we understand and feel your pain.
The special care these brave warriors require as they fight this battle somehow makes the loss even more painful and the huge hole where you poured your love out to him, gargantuan.
Smokey was indeed a brave boy and you were fortunate to have eachother...to enrich and bless eachother's lives.
I pray that in time, the pain from losing your precious Smokey is replaced with warm, and comforting memories.
Hugs,

Wow. We can't believe it either, and we are heartbroken to hear this.
Smokey's journey has been long, beautiful and heroic. As one of our earliest Forum members, you both taught us a lot about how we could help answer questions for pawrents who are just starting their own amputation and cancer experience. Thank you for being a part of this community.
He will be deeply missed by all of us, but the example he set will continue to lighten our hearts and inspire others for years to come. Smokey's spirit will live on here at Tripawds.
Our deepest condolences are coming your way.
