We are still here dor you amd will NEVER leave you......just as Lili will never leave you.

It was unfair beyond words. I can only say that,up un til those last few days, she was loving soaking up all that loving and spoiling.....and you did it so well!

You may....and I'm just saying "may".....find some unexpected comfort when you bring Lili back home. I know I do.

Glad you are going on a little doggy vacation...-it will be bittersweet but I think it will be good for your emotinal well being...and sweet Peter's!

Just went back and clicked on to those delightful pictures again:-) :-) So glad you have that family album. Such a treasure

And we treasure you and care avout you. Please drop vy when you can. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS, k ow we are here for you and understand.
And know that every "celebratin" we have here.....we will always celebrate and honor our brilliantly vibrant hero Lili
Sending you healing energy,

Sally and Happy Hannah

All,

It has been six weeks since we said goodbye to Lili.  It has been a tough time.  Thinking about her makes me well up with tears, but also smile because she was such a funny, mischievous, lovable little girl.  I know that we will never have another one like her, and I feel cheated that we only had 8 years with her.  She deserved so much more living and love than that.  Cancer is so very unfair.

But I wanted to check in with a happy update.  We have a new member of our pack.  In some ways it felt too soon, though in others, it felt just right.  We have room in our home and in our hearts.  You may remember from my first post above that Lili was the dearly beloved "little sister" of our older dog Peter.  He is a needy, anxious guy, and he seemed lonely, and older all of a sudden, without his Lili around.  We simply are a two-dog household, and Lili left behind a hole that we were eager to fill.

So, I tentatively poked around on Petfinder, trying to find just the right fit.  Then, I saw a face that I just couldn't resist, at our local animal shelter (a not-so-nice kill shelter).  We stopped by just to "visit", and the rest is history.  I will try to figure out how to post pictures so you can meet Rose, who has been with us for a couple of weeks now.  She's our "type," a shaggy terrier mix.  Black and white spotted, a bit smaller than Peter or Lili at about 30 lbs.  She was a stray and we were told she was 2 years old, though the vet guesses closer to 1.  She's a little hooligan, getting into trouble at every turn, but with her constantly wagging tail and a cheerful disposition, it's hard to stay mad at her.  She reminds me SO MUCH of Lili as a puppy, and she has brought smiles back to our somewhat somber house.  Peter was skeptical at first but has come around, and it warms my heart to see him acting like a young pup again, playing and running like he used to do with Lili before the stupid cancer.

Of course, we can never EVER replace Lili, and I will always miss her dearly.  But I like to think she would have wanted us to give another girl mutt a home, and she wouldn't want her Peter to be lonely.

So that's our update.  Thanks to all for the support and good wishes.  No one wants to be part of this community, but finding y'all was one of the highlights of this journey.

Best,

Ann

Ann it is so nice to hear from you. We all understand the conflicting feelings around getting another pack member but it sure does sound like the stars aligned for all of you. I'm guessing that Lili made it happen from up above, as she knows how much love you have for animals and how badly they need you. How wonderful, congratulations!

Lili is proud, and while you can never replace her, you can continue honoring her spirit by sharing your love with other animals in need. How cool!

Oh heah! You betcha'! Lili absolutely made this happen!! And apparently even made sure Rose would remind you of her while still being her own persn.....er...dogpersn! Lili's life touched us all.....and she's still here touching our hearts! She's such a hero of the whole tripawd commnity.......infinitely!

I'm sooooo thrilled for you AND Peter! And Peter REALLY does look like the dog in the Travellers commercial! Love their commercials!

I really think one of the best ways to honor our beloved pets who have crossed over is to make sure we "save another in need" as a tribute them. Rose is a very lucky girl! Her vibrant, mischievous personality is exactly what you and Peter need. And your love and care is exactly what she needs!

'Better make sure Lili's "escape hole" in the fence is plugged up! Bet Lili has already shown her where it iswinker

Yes, I think when any of us read about another tripawd family member's devasting and tragic loss, the grief and sadness overcome us all. We grieve deeply for their loss......we also grieve because it has already happened to us......or it will.......everytime ........over and over. We understand as no others can

And we celebrate when someone like you comes back to us with such an uplifting update that allows us to feel joy once againin between the sadness. And yes indeedy, we MUST have pictures of Rose!! Rose and Peter too! Wanna' see "tht look" that you talked about......I defi itely see "that look" with Lili and Peter!
I have a dog "Do ut" who has crossed over and has the Peter "that look". I have a dog "Buckwheat" who has crossed over and has the Lili "that look"..
I'm beginning to think that all the dogs with "that look", have congregated together as best buds over in rainbow bridge joyouslh forming a welcoming committee for dogs with a "different look"clap And when we get to the rainbow bridge for our joyful reunion.......maybe we'll find that THEY selected US because we all look similar to each other with "that look"smiley

It's just wonderful to hear how Lili's legacy is continuing through Rose.

Sending love to all!

Welcome Rose!

I adopted Obie, another black pug, just 5 weeks after Maggie left.  Tani had never been an only dog and was really lost without her big sister.  There will never be another Maggie, but I love Tani and Obie for who they are and that is enough.

Congrats on the new pack member.  I'm glad for you too that there are some smiles with the tears, it does get better with time.

What a wonderful update and Rose is beautiful. I'm sure Lili prompts her when necessary so you remember to smile about a special Lili moment. Congrads on your new family member.
