So basically, when our September Saints need a break from chasing tennis balls, they try to catch the various insects at the Bridge?

I love it!

David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.

Hi David, just now getting caught up on Rocky's story. Like Izzy's momma, it's hard for me to be here. Like Rocky, NItro never showed any pain, from the beginning of the journey to the end. And like you, I keep reliving not only the last day, but the last 3+ years of his Tripawd life; so much so, that I fear that I ONLY identify him as a Tripawd - but he was so much more! But to be fair to myself, our bond over the last 3 years was infinitely intensified. He was my heart-dog, my life, and I still can't believe he's gone. I'm going to try Rene's trick, to think of a happy memory when I start to tear up (which is often these days).

I love the Rocky pics, he was adorable.

Paula and Warrior Angel Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Awww....these pictures are PERFECT!!  Well done!  You really picked the ones that captured the essences of some very happy dogs.

I know we lost two other magnificent dogs in September.  They mostly blogged.

GERRY, a very handsome and gentle vig yellow dawg who liked to be read to by his Mom transitioned in September.

RUFUS, a cuddly, snuggly big squishy Newfie who showed everyone big dogs can rock three legs just fine, headed to the Bridge in September.

Love to all

Sally and My Chunky Spiritual Being Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Nicely done, Patricia. Those are three beautiful dogs.

I had read Gerry's blog. I didn't know about Rufus. It sounds like Maddy will be joining the Saints soon too, unfortunately.

Maybe it's too soon, but thinking of a happy memory hasn't worked real well for me yet.

I was at work today when I saw Rocky's banner (thank you again Rene and Jim!) and it got a little dusty for me again. The pic on the left of his banner was taken March 20 - right after we got home from his first bath and haircut post-amp. He's in mid-trademark Rocky howl. It was a really good day and a really good memory. But it also reminded me of a time when we still had hope, and I miss that feeling.

I still go on walks around the neighborhood every night. And there are a lot of really good memories on those walks. But it makes me sad to realize how fast the time went by, and also sad that we won't be making any more memories together.

Sorry for the downer. I know it's going to eventually get better. But it's going to take some more time.

It's not a "downer" at all.  Your emotions are still so very raw and being pulled in so many directions.  The happy memories are starting to show up....that's the sweet part.  Then the sadness creeps in longing for whwt was...that's the bitter part. BITTERSWEET MEMORY

Mid-trademark bark! Great photo capturing a perfect Rocky trademark!   I really domlove his banner.

Have   you fiven any thought to fostering a dog who may be "discarded" at a kill shelter if someone doesn't pull him?  And I'm REALLY not taling about a "foster fail" at this point anyway.  Just thinking some dog coukd use a break from the horros of being on "death row" and you could use a dog to help at some light.

Another dog is in my future. And after the experience with Rocky, I'm 99 percent sure I'll go the shelter/foster route again. Rocky just always seemed to genuinely appreciate how good he had it, and that was very rewarding for me. But I need some time. Even if I just foster and don't adopt yet.

I need some more time to grieve Rocky. I need some time to de-stress from battling cancer with him. And I want to take some time to travel a bit. I hated leaving Rocky with my parents when he was healthy, but I refused to leave him even for a weekend after he was diagnosed. I missed my nephew's baptism and my niece's second birthday - no regrets, Rocky came first. But I'm going next month to visit them. I'm going to visit one of my college buddies in November. After that? We'll see.

I've got a video of Rocky's howl. I need to figure out how to post that. In the meantime, since I mentioned my niece. This is from last Thanksgiving.

Let's see if this works. I had to cut it way down to get it to fit size wise.

Edit: That didn't work.
