What kind words from the vet! I've been going through some "anticipatory grief" and learning to change my point of view. The day we found out about Jack's cancer, I spent 5 minutes in the car dry heaving. Then I moved to fighter mode where I swore up and down we would do whatever it took to get rid of his cancer. Because of this site and the links on here, I have been changing my mind about the situation. We can't change what we've been given. We are given a short time with our furballs, and it is our responsibility to give them the happiest life we can. If we can do that, we have accomplished our goal. You did that for Max, and I appreciate you sharing your story and giving a bit of comfort to us all.
What a wonderful message of hope. You will always miss your Max, of course, but your new puppy is there to educate you in "The Way of the Dog". We did take such good care of our pets, and we gave them everything we had. I was also lucky enough to have a wonderful veterinarian who took the time to offer every word of comfort.
Keep us posted on the new puppy - I am loving hearing about it.

Paula, what wonderful words of wisdom from your vet. That has to bring some comfort to know your effort and love were recognized.

The day that we put Max down his vet said somethng to me that I will never forget…..her words were….”you went the distance with Max. You made him the center of your life, did what needed to be done and were his caretaker when many people would have given up. There is a place in heaven for people like you.”
Beauifully said by an obviously kind and compassionate vet. How fortunate you are to have someone like that to help you raise your furry kids.
Yes, we agree; this is a unique bunch of people here who understand that dogs aren't just an accessory or yard ornament. They are our teachers, our therapists, our family. And they bring caring people like you here, to help others with their own journeys, and make the world a better place. Thanks for being here with us.
It's hard to believe it's been a whole month already. You paid a fitting tribute to Max by taking him up to the lake, but as you can already see, he will never leave your side. Those little signs will always be there, through Luke and the beauty that you see in the universe every day.
Many many hugs to you!
