This morning at 11:55 AM I held Max in my arms and said goodbye for the last time. He traveled peacefully to the rainbow bridge, with his beloved tennis ball nestled in his neck, where he met Jerry, Wrigley and all of the other Tripawd heroes waiting for him there. Our vet was kind enough to come to our home and allow him to be in a place where he was familiar and comfortable ,and that meant alot to all of us. I cannot put into words how sad this is for our family. Max was an inspiration to us all with his determined will and strength. We were fortunate enough to celebrate his second birthday with him on May 5th and to also welcome into our home his nephew Luca, who turned 8 weeks old on Max's birthday. As we grive for him now, we are also fortunate enough to have his spirit live on in Luca and we know that Max made sure that we knew  he was leaving part of himself behind to comfort our human emotions. Max was truly my best friend and I treasure the time we had together. He taught us lessons in life that will stay with us forever. I love you my baby, and will think of you every second of every day. Thank you for being my best friend and allowing me to have the privledge of being your Mom. I will look for you to remind me that you are with me more now, than ever. I love you my sweet Black Labby.

There are endless tennis balls in heaven!!! I know your heart is breaking today without him by your side, but his spirit is with you always.

Paula,

Heaven can only be a sweeter place with the  new addition of Max. I know how hard it is... but with each day comes a sense of peace, of knowing you did right by Max and he knows that.

I'm sure he was greeted by my Baby Buster, all the others to keep him company till the time comes to be reunited.

Condolences,

Kim & Angel Buster

I join the others in our common grief at your loss.  May you feel the stir of the air as Max flies by with his perfect heavenly body.  I picture them flying around with wild abandon, buzzing us from time to time as a reminder that the connection is still there.

Peace with hugs and an Anatolian "lean"

No "goodbye's" - just "see ya's"...Max will always be with you in spirit and through Luca - we don't share an experience like this with another soul and have it end completely when the body ceases and the soul remains. I can only imagine the heartbreak Paula and my thoughts have been with you all weekend long. Max made sure you were going to be OK by bringing Luca into your life so your heart could also feel joy during this time of overwhelming sadness - YOU made sure Max crossed over with dignity and free of pain...the greatest and most selfless, difficult gift we give our furkids.

Peace Paula -

We love you ~

Paula - I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Max.  What a loving tribute to him in your message.  You will always miss him but the lessons he taught will remain.  I have not forgotten what Jack has taught me - I sometimes need to remind myself as I still grieve him but the lessons are always there - he would not want me to be sad.  Max was so blessed to have you as his mom.  He will always be nearby.

Labbie hugs to you --

Tripawd Angel Max

Paula,

This is such sad news. We are so deeply sorry that Max's time on earth has ended, but you said it best, he is with you now more than ever. Our connection to our furry kids will always remain.

He was such a brave hero. All of us here are so appreciative for the time you took to share his story with us all, and the support you give to other pawrents here. Thank you so much.

Max, your spirit will shine on forever, here and throughout the universe. Say hi to our babies. Someday, we will all meet again.

With love,

Rene, Jim & Spirit Jerry

Hi Paula,

I haven't been around for a couple weeks, I'm so sorry to hear about Max.   I've followed your updates about Max since we joined this board, since we are Black Lab comrades.   My heart goes out to you and your family at this time.  Max sure did fight the good fight, and was so inspirational to all of us out here that are continuing to fight this stupid cancer.  Max was very loved by his family and you guys gave him the best life possible, that was obvious.   Thank you for sharing Max with us,  Heaven has another angel.  RIP Max.

Dear Paula.

Cry  How incredibly sad that yet another beloved and inspirational tripawd hero's time was cut way too short and had to say goodbye to us.  Max is now pain free and running and playing with those fantastic tennis balls and snuggling with his beloved tripawd angel pack and of course their wise leader Jerry.  Max's spirit is around you now Paula as you already know within your heart.  His love knows no boundaries and he knows how much you and your family love and appreciate him and always will.  I occasionally feel Jake's spirit with me but I believe they have God's "work" to do up there too which keeps them busy and doesn't allow them to visit for very long... just long enough to check in on you and send their amazing love.  Max sure was a beautiful boy and such a loving soul.  Having Luca in your family now is such a blessing and even though he will never be able to replace Max of course, it will ease your pain and perhaps put a smile on your face to see a part of Max running around, playing and being full of life.  Our furbabies are all sent to us for a reason and those lessons they teach us while they are here for such a short time (way too short) are so enriching to our lives.  You are in my thoughts and prayers Paula during this painful and healing time.

Paula~

I am SO so sorry! I followed Max's story & it just breaks my heart that he's lost his battle. He's was so young, so handsome. It's such a sad time on the board. Wrigley CA, Wrigley II, Max, Max C..

I hope things are getting easier for you as days pass by.

Peace sweet Max!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

It will be a month tomorrow that we helped Max cross the bridge. I miss him VERY much and still cry often, but it is getting easier. We spread some of his ashes at our lake home last week and while it was incredibly emotional it really helped me have some closure. That was one of his favorite spots and he spent alot of time swimming and playing there. Its only fitting that we laid him to rest there.

The day that we put Max down his vet said somethng to me that I will never forget…..her words were….”you went the distance with Max. You made him the center of your life, did what needed to be done and were his caretaker when many people would have given up. There is a place in heaven for people like you.”

I believe that is true of all of us on this site. We go the distance and we do whats right because we love them so. They arent just our pets, but our family. A thread woven through our lives so tightly that it hurts.

Our family is healing….and Max's nephew Luke (15 weeks) is helping us cope. As he grows older I see so much of Max in him. He makes some of the same noises and barks at me when he wants something. He has some of the same expressions and sometimes I think that its Max's spirit shining through saying “hey Mom…Im still with you!”

My Max, while only 2 years old, was a wise dog…he got his house in order before he left. He knew I would need something to help me heal. What better thing than part of himself.
