Just some random thoughts here, but in the last few days, we have lost too many beautiful, beloved Tripawd warriors. My Mom is sitting here wondering, why so many, all of a sudden? How come these dogs didn't get their fair share of extra time?

Some weeks are harder here than others. We try to take our own advice though, and remember that whether Tripawds get one extra month, or one extra year, or longer, that  extra time is still a gift that they wouldn't have had, if our Tripawd pawrents weren't brave enough to make the call to amputate. Every single day is a gift. For us, when we parted ways, keeping that in mind made things a little easier than if I had just departed suddenly.

So a big thank you to all of you Tripawd pawrents, for being as courageous as your furry friends, and sharing your stories with us. Because even when we are grieving for a beloved friend who has just crossed the Rainbow Bridge, we can be consoled with stories of thriving Tripawds who are doing well. It's that yin and yang thing I guess.

Thank you everybody, for being here. We love you all.

Well said there Jerry.  It has certainly been a particularly overwhelming month!  As you said, "every single day is a gift".  As painful as all of our journeys are - the other side of that pain is a valuable lesson... to appreciate TODAY and to show our loved ones just how much we love them.

Letting go of a loved one is excrutiatingly painful.  It causes our hearts to break into a million pieces.  Thank God for this support group because it has become such an important part of my life after I learned of Jake's diagnosis of Osteosarcoma on October 6th.  He is my furry son.  We have been through so much together in the past 12 years.  I know every day I have with him is precious.  Every time I read about another heart broken pawrent who has lost their precious tripawd, I pray for them to have peace in their hearts and I weep for their loss because we all love our fur babies... that is why we are all here... to learn, to reach out, to support, to share and to heal.  So, THANK YOU SPIRIT JERRY for being our inspiration and THANK YOU RENE AND JIM for giving us this incredible support forum.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I couldn't agree more that is has been an emotionally trying day here on tripawds. The news is sad and discouraging at times. We progect  sorrows into our own situation and try to make sense of it all. It can make you have doubts about the future. However, it is in times like this that our faith is tested. Faith: a belief in that which is not based on proof. You have to hope for the best and take a leap. Thats all we can do when faced with statisitics, is try to beat the odds and celebrate when one does. Otherwise, I think Jerry would be disappointed with us all ... so in the mean time like that Beatles song , "I get by with a little help from friends " here on this forum. I tell myself God has a plan...

Your friend,

Kim&Buster

Wow.... no kidding. A lot of sad news.  It is me, Charlie Brown.  I hope that you remember me.  I am a 6 year old beautiful chocolate lab.  My right front leg was amputated in April of 08 after my biopsy reported osteosarcoma.  However, when the leg was sent to Colorado, the diagnosis changed to fibrosarcoma....   I will let you know all about me in a minute...

I am so sorry to hear of these losses.  I did not even know about Jerry.  It sounds like so many people have made such loving decisions for their dogs. It could not have been easy. I hope that Rene and Jim know how much this support forum does for those that need it.  When we were going through our crisis, my pawrents were on this site constantly.  Jerry's story and others like his, helped us through some terrible nights.  My type of cancer is pretty curable, with amputation.  I don't know that my mom would have had the courage to remove my leg without the support that she received here.  You really did save my life.

I am now going on 6 months post amutation. I am amazing!!  I have had a great summer swimming in the ocean and in the pool.  I run , and play like I have always had 3 legs. My scar has healed so well.  I must tell you... I am a beautiful dog!!  Locally, I have had the chance to encourage other families that might be afraid of amputation.  My parents don't really need to say anything. People just need to see me.

I realize that the cancer could always come back. We try not to worry about that, but enjoy our times together instead.  Jerry and family, you were the inspiration that we really needed.  We will always be grateful.

 Much love,

Charlie Brown and his mom, Wendy

Hmmm ... QT movies will work. We tried fixing it but your code includes no source URL for the actual media file.

Buster before surgery... even with meds he was very unhappy!! He was misdiagnosed for several months and had 2 painful biopsies as a result.

After surgery...

Thank you. I just wanted to show how much the amputation helped him. A picture says it all, you can see how miserable he was. Speaking of his eyes he has a condition, uveititis, which is starting to flare up and I'm trying to control it with mega doses of vitamin A, which is in cod liver oil.(i'm trying to avoid the rx's for now since they compromise his immune system)... We also just celebrated his 6 month ampuversary which is in the blog http://www.trip...../#more-492

Maybe, I should of put this in a separate thread, but I just wanted to show 6 months later how much happier he is...and too me that is all that matters!

Wow. I'm surprised at all the posts about dogs who passed, too. I haven't been on in a few weeks, and first thing I saw was Jerry with halo. I'm sorry for your loss. Jerry was a big help for me.
About a month ago, I had to put my own dog, Baxter, down.
My vet estimated he had 2 months, but he lasted 9 days. Osteosarcoma is a horrible horrible cancer. But it brought me closer to my dog than I thought I could be.

Darren, thank you so much for checking back here, we know how hard that can be when coping with losing your best friend.

We send our condolences out to you, we are so truly sorry about Baxter. We know his spirit will always be at your side.

Your thought about how cancer brought you two closer, is just beautiful. We've never heard it put quite that way. Thank you for sharing.

Best wishes,

Spirit Dog Jerry, Jim & Rene
