Thanks for joining the Tripawds community! We're sorry to hear about Samantha, but happy you found us. I'm no vet, but I'll leave your topic in this forum to see if Pam can offer her professional opinion.

We do believe, however, that K9 Immunity helped Jerry live another 8 happy months after we discovered his lung mets from osteosarcoma. We did not put him through IV chemo after his surgery, but started him on K9 Immunity and Transfer Factor along with his metronomic therapy when the cancer returned to his lungs.

We wish you the best for little Sam. The best advice I can give you is to try and understand something heard often around these forums — Samantha is living with cancer, not dying from it! Make the most of every moment you have with her and don't fear the future. She doesn't.

I am sorry about the lymphoma.  It is true that this is not usually a surgical disease. Has your vet offered you different treatment options? Full chemo using the U of WI Madison protocol is one of the best options and involves weekly injections but does cost about $1500-2000 for a small dog.  Another option is to just give Adriamycin every 3 weeks for 5 injections which could give a remission rate of 6 months or more. If that is something you can't do then I would at least try Prednisone daily since this is very cheap and can buy you 2-3 months or more.

It is a good idea to try the K9 Immunity and Transfer factor as well as a good quality diet.

I am so sorry about Samantha.  I don't know anything about lymphoma so I can't give you any medical advice but I just wanted to let you lnow I am sorry and will be praying for her and you.  It is so much easier said than done but Jerry is right.  Samantha doesn't know she has cancer.  Dogs live for the now.  We want the future.  Build memories and love her every day.  Emily does not take K9 Immunity or Transfer Factor yet because she was in a drug study but I am thinking of adding them.  I think they have been helpful to many of our dogs.

Hi Sweety,

I'm so sorry to hear about your Samantha!Frown I know how devastating it is to find out that your baby has a terminal disease... We are still not over our shock!

My Jake (10yr old golden retriever) was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and had his front leg amputated on Oct 17... I'm sorry, but I haven't done any research on lymphoma. I also can't afford chemo for Jake, so I've just changed his diet to something more natural and holistic (Blue Buffalo), and I add some home cooked chicken or turkey with veggies, and brown rice, and added a bunch of supplements. I also started him on meloxicam (a week ago), a cox-2 inhibitor and NSAID that has shown to have some anti-tumor and anti-metastasis effects... but I don't know if that can help with lymphoma or not... I'm also getting some of the K9 Immunity and Transfer factor soon, and will be trying that with Jake soon.

Sending you a big virtual hug!! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Samantha. I hope that she will beat the survival odds and have alot more good quality time left with you!!

thank you for all that replied to my quesions. sadly my samantha passed away december 8, 2009.she had been diagnosed with high grade lymphoma oct 24th 2009. after the chemos she became anemic. the vet thinks the lymphoma got to her bone marrow which was causing her red blood cells to plumet after chemo. i had to put her to sleep which was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. they had done a blood transfusion the first time she became anemic but she had bad reactions to it causing her to have a high fever. he said he couldnt do another one cause it would probably kill her since she was so weak.i loved her so much. today december 25th was going to be her 11th birthday. thank you again for replying to my questions. my samantha was my only child and i miss her more and more.. god bless and take care ..lisa .. sammy's mom

Lisa.

I was so very sorry to read your post and find out that you had to lose your Samantha.  My Emily had to be put to sleep in November so I understand how hard it is and how much you are grieving.  I'm sorry she didn't get to see her birthday and so many, many more special days the two of you shared.  Remember how much she loved you and try to hold the memories close to you.  You are in my prayers.  Samantha is free from her pain but yours is strong.

Lisa, we are so sorry, our hearts go out to you. Sammy was a brave girl who fought courageously against one of the most aggressive cancers out there. We hope that with each new day the pain of losing her eases up just a little, and you can replace the heartbreak with happiness for all of the memories you shared together.

Happy Birthday Spirit Sammy. May you run free forever and watch over your Mamma always.

Many, many hugs to you.
