Hello, tripawd pawrents!
Spring has sprung here in Florida and our tripawd is enjoying her first spring on 3 legs. Her favorite activity is sunbathing in the soft grass.
We have two concerns now that she's a little less mobile.
Like most old ladies, our boxer is set in her ways and since surgery she has decided she only likes to relieve herself in a certain part of the yard. She's killing the grass. The problem with that is more than cosmetic because of super fun parasites and creatures that live in the soil. We need to try to keep that part of the yard green for her. Does anyone know of a product that can help with urine burn or grass variety that can survive gallons of boxer pee?
Also- because of the osteosarcoma, we are really trying to avoid putting weed and feed on the grass because atropine (sp?) isn't the most cancer friendly chemical and she really loves laying in the yard. Does anyone have any ideas on weed killer and/or natural fertilizer for the yard? I thought about cow manure, but id have to dry it out and break up the chunks before putting it in the broadcaster. Our neighbors are probably not used to the smell of warm cow poo as it cures, either. 🙂 hee hee hee

Boy. We haven't owned a house with a yard in a lonnnnng time so I'm going to defer to the community on that one. So sorry!
Does anyone have any ideas on weed killer and/or natural fertilizer for the yard?
Another one where I'm not much help since when we did have a yard, our lawn was pretty much a grassy field with dandelion weeds for decorations! But....I'm thinking that if you can get a good grass variety going on, one that is more native to your area, then you may not need as much fertilizer for the lawn. But I'm no master gardener. However, I did find this info that may help:

Hi there,
just wanted to mention seaweed liquid fertiliser, which is great for lawns and other plants and completely safe for dogs and other ‘wildlife’. My lawn is nothing to write home about, given the Megsta’s love of digging/chewing holes in it, but the garden does support a wonderful variety of bird and insect life, and the soil is full of worms and other goodies.

I worked at Petsmart and Petco for a side-hustles while in graduate school. And, customers would purchase NaturVet Grass Saver as well as Lawn Guard, I had never heard of these things before.... and remember having a conversation with one of our customers about the NaturVet version. He told me that he had 2 big dogs and that he saw a difference and swears by using the product.
Of course, I don't know much about these things .... so please check the ingredients to make sure that you feel that they're safe.
