Great, great progress, Nicole.  To hell with the roommates, buy yourself a bottle of wine!  Duke goes to his crate periodically.  We don't make him stay in it anymore, but it is always there for him and he uses it when he wants to.  Every few days I give him a crate command just to let him know it is something I may still expect.  I think Duke was crate trained with a stuffed kong.  I noticed over the weekend he has both his kongs in his crate.

I have been reading and using the techniques set out in the book I'll be Home Soon: How to Prevent and Treat Separation Anxiety by Patricia B. McConnell Ph.D. This book goes into detail about what is and what is not separation anxiety then provides eight distinct steps to treat separation anxiety including an example schedule. The author states that in nearly every case, she was able to get the dog past this issues in six to eight week, however one specific case did take quite a bit longer. It is only 37 pages in length and available for less then ten dollars (including shipping) at amazon.com using the link above. I highly recommend it for all who are dealing with this issue and anyone getting a new addition for it also discusses how to "prevent" separation anxiety in the first place. As great as it is to rescue like I did with my Chloe, quality breeders do many things to prevent separation anxiety in the first place. This is why I have never before had to deal with this issue.

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
