I swear, we have the worst luck on our walks. Here's something I thought would never happen: We got attacked. By a cat.

Baxter seems OK. I figured the cat must have a death wish as it kept coming closer; never expected it to actually attack. But it did and Baxter screamed and ran back from it rather than tear it apart. I stuck my leg in between them and got scratched through my pants before the people came and grabbed it. Guess I'll keep an eye on both Baxter and me over the next several days to make sure we're both OK.

I still carry my bear spray after the incident with the dogs, but never thought I might have to use it on a cat.

Holy moly David......never  would have thought  a cat would so aggressively charge a dog on a walk!! Crrrraaazzzzy!

Attacked you? Attacked Baxter??  Awfully scary!  Something's just  not right.  I guess the first thing thst comes to mind is does the  cat have a rabies shot?  Wjwt did the owners say? Were they apologetic?  Did they act like it's the first time it happened?

I'm so sorry this happened to sweet Baxter and to you.  For Baxter to not fight back  just shows what a sweet guy he is.  He was  probably  just as much in shock as you were. Who would have thought a cat would be such a danger while you were just walking Baxter. I certainly hope those people don't let that cat out anymore, or at least put it on a leash!

Certainly  hope neither you nor Baxter don't develop  any abcess or infection.  Yes, definitely  keep an eye out for any wounds getting ugly.

Hugs

PS.  Of course you know we need a pic of Baxter!!!!!

They did apologize and asked if Baxter was OK. They said they normally keep the cat indoors. They were bringing groceries in and the cat snuck outside. They've actually petted Baxter before when we've been out walking.

I'm kind of mad now that I didn't get mad in the moment, but I was just stunned. I've told Baxter if we see that cat again, he has my permission to treat it like a squirrel.

When we got home, I wiped where it got me with some alcohol and put a bandage over it. Went to check it tonight and it's fine, but I didn't even realize it actually got me worse behind the leg. I've wiped it down and put a bandage over that spot. Fingers crossed it doesn't get infected. And extra crossed it didn't get Baxter. It almost had to have gotten him somewhere, but I can't find any spots.

Because I'm me, I took Baxter to the vet this morning. He did get bit along his backside. The vet said it's a fairly deep puncture wound, so Baxter is on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories for a bit. Otherwise, he should be OK.

I'll be headed to that house later today looking for reimbursement.

So glad you had him  checked him out.  Puncture wounds can often fester under the radar and turn quite nasty.

Let us know how the "visit" goes with the cat neighbor.  There should not be any issue whatsoever  in getting reimbursed!  Can you imagine if this had been reversed?  Animall Control would jave been called and Bazter probably  would have been quarantined!

Makes us angry too.  For sweet Baxter to just be trying to enjoy a  walk with his Dad and to have this happen....grrrr🤬

Okay....All Baxter's fans are calling for a  photo of this sweet boy!!!

Rocky's dad said
Here's something I thought would never happen: We got attacked. By a cat.

smiley3 This remind us of the incident when Jerry was attacked by a cat, which we wrote about in Be More Dog: Learning to Live in the Now... sp_hearticon2

One evening after work during their nightly neighborhood stroll, a fat cat ran out of a house. She sprinted all the way to the curb, then flung herself at Jerry with extended claws and a look to kill. The crazed feline latched onto his rear end and hung on hard, loudly hissing, as if Jerry had just tried to kidnap her young.

“Aaaack!” Rene screamed and swatted at the cat with the end of Jerry’s leash. “Get off him! Get off!” Jerry spun around in surprise and vigorously tried to fling the angry cat from his haunches. He ran for cover behind Jim’s legs with the cat still hanging on. Rene ran interference and with one final leash thwack on her rear, the cat loosened her grip and bolted...

AND: We come to the forums today, having personally not seen any posts from Rocky's dad in forever...ans who's banner do we see???

Yeah, this happened... smiley16

Oh man, that's crazy about Jerry. Did he get hurt? At least you tried to help him. I didn't do much for poor Baxter other than stick my leg out so I could get bit/clawed as well.

I think Baxter is feeling worse this afternoon. He wants on the couch, but doesn't want to jump up there. I called the vet back and he said it's possible the wound penetrated down to the muscle, but reiterated Baxter should be fine. He offered to prescribe some Tramadol too to help with the pain, so I went and got that. It's funny when the vet starts trying to explain to me the different meds and I'm thinking to myself "thanks to Rocky, I know all about Tramadol ... and Gabapentin ... and Deramax, etc."

On the way home, I stopped at the house and gave them the receipt from this morning. The woman didn't seem to be real apologetic today, but they did reimburse me. Honestly, I don't really care about the money though, I just want them to keep their stupid cat inside. Really don't want to go through that again.

Been a bit of a rough night. Baxter still can't get on the couch or bed and yelps some when he first gets up. So I've made a makeshift bed for myself on the living room floor next to his dog bed (although right now, he's taken my "bed"). Last time I slept out here was February of 2017 in the first couple of weeks after Rocky's amputation. Kind of strange to be back here again.

You are such a devoted Dad💖   Baxter is so lucky to be in your loving care. Of course, Rocky knew you would give him the best home ever, just like you gave him.

I'm sorry Baxter is having such a rough time. It may be that his muscles are also sore just from being so tensed up from trying to flee from this crazy cat.

I'm glad you got reimbursed for the vet bill. It's a shame they weren't a bit more apologetic about the whole ordeal

Now, about those pictures........

Oh wow I'm sorry that happened. I hope tomorrow is a better day. Don't feel bad about not doing more, that was a terrible surprise and it's hard to know what to do in the moment. I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Jerry was physically ok after that attack but mentally he was always leery of cats afterward and kept his distance.

I hope you both get some sleep tonight and feel better in the morning. Sleeping on the floor is definitely deja vu! It's a good time to cuddle though, I can't blame you.

How is your wound looking? Was it a bite or a scratch? Bites can get infected pretty bad so keep an eye on it.

Seems a little bit better today. Some yelping, but not as much. Still can't get any push off the leg near the bite, so no jumping on the couch or bed.  No limping though. Still seems strange to me he had no problem jumping Tuesday night and yesterday morning, but can't do it now. He's been a bit lethargic, but that's probably the meds. If I open the pantry door (where the cookies are) he pops right up.

From what I've read, it takes a couple of days for an infection to set in, so I guess today is the day if I'm going to have issues. I've got a nice long scratch on the back of my leg. Not sure if the front is a scratch or bite. The marks are still red, but don't appear any worse. I've been putting Neosporin on them; I'll just keep keeping any eye on them, but I think I'm fine.

Obviously not happy it happened, but two things I'm thankful for: If Baxter had to get bit, that's probably about the best spot. When it first happened, I was worried the cat got Baxter in the face. Very glad we don't have to worry about any eye issues. And the weather has been warm enough here that I almost wore shorts on our walk. Not sure what my leg would look like if I didn't have some protection from my pants.

I'm leaning toward going over to Animal Control and filling a report, just to have it on record that we were attacked.

The pictures....and the one with Baxter's "thought bubble"....priceless!!!!   🤣😂

Sorry it took the cat attack  to get pictures of him, but we just love seeing his photos.  Such a handsome boy.

Such a bummer that this has taken such a toll on Baxter.  So undeserving for both of you. And yes, tha k goodness you did have long pants on..   I do hope you start to see a turn around in his behavior soon.  In the meantime, keep on opening the pa try door to make him perky.

Yeah, pro a good idea to file a report.  You may have more medical expenses  to deal with as far as his wound healing, etc.  So a documentation  of everything may come in handy.

And thanks again for the pictures 👍

Hugs
