If that's not a sign David, I don't know what is!!!! There is indeed a pawty at the Bridge today!

Paula

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! Awwww, sweet, sweet Rocky💖     it IS hard to believe Rocky isn't  in his "earth clothes" anymore, because we always feel his presence.  And seeing his banner, and all the banners of our Angel's, just adds an exclamation  point to the face that Rocky will ALWAYS   be with us❤

I know the Aprils Angel crew arranged for everyone to have dirty green tennis balls as an "after dinner treat" for everyone to,play with😎

And btw, a  light  that shines as brightly  as Rocky's, gets more than just one candle...........

Okay, Rocky must be making sure we notice him today.  I went to his "Remembering  Rocky" blog and it won't  let me comment...says error 404.

It's  acting like I'm  not .legged in, but I am.

Anybody else???

What are you up to Rocky😉😉😉

It's been awhile since I've logged in. But I had to come back today for Rocky's Angelversary. What's the first banner I see when I hit the forums? Rocky's, of course. I'm just going to go ahead and assume I'll find a penny w

WOW what a sign! There are many banners here, and no doubt that Rocky arranged his appearance just for you.

An entire year already? Wow. We think of your boy often and love seeing his banner pop up. What a cutie.

I hope you and Baxter have a lovely walk in Rocky's name, and over here on the other side of the country, we'll do the same. Your hero will always be remembered by us all.

Much love and many hugs to you on this bittersweet angelversary. Thank you so much for your generous donation too, we are so honored.

No pennies yesterday. I guess he was too busy keeping Sally from commenting on the blog. laughing

Jackie,

Baxter is still hunting. Although, the rabbits have even the scored with him.

It's been a couple of months ago now, but Baxter found a bunny in the yard. For whatever reason, the silly rabbit decided to run circles around the yard instead of hitting the hole under the fence. So round and round they went - the bunny with Baxter right behind - for three or four laps before the rabbit decide to make his escape.

As the rabbit dove under the fence, Baxter was able to grab something. A leg? His rear end? I'm not sure. But for about 15 seconds, I could see Baxter tugging at the bottom of the fence and hear the poor bunny shrieking. By the time I got my shoes on and went out in the yard, the rabbit had escaped. I looked through the fence and couldn't see him, so I assume Baxter didn't hurt him too badly. We got back inside and I saw something fall from Baxter's mouth. I picked it up and realized it was one of Baxter's bottom incisors. Yup, he lost a tooth going after the rabbit.

About a year after getting Rocky, he got his teeth cleaned. The vet at the time said one his incisors needed to be pulled. Ironically, it's the same tooth Baxter lost.

The rabbits seem to have learned to stay out of the yard now, although a squirrel still wanders in from time to time. We still see rabbits every day on our walks though, and he tries to chase them every time.

Wow that Baxter is one prey-driven doggie! Amazing that the critter got loose, thankfully. I wonder if maybe Baxter would be good at something like lure coursing? That would be a great way to burn off his prey drive and help him get exercise too (without losing any more teeeth!). Have you ever seen it done?

I need to look into lure coursing. I had never even heard of it. Although on first glance, there doesn't appear to be any near us.

Baxter LOVES his walks, but otherwise I don't really know how else to entertain him. Rocky had his tennis balls, but Baxter has shown no interest in fetching anything (other than rabbits) and he doesn't really play with his toys too often.

BAXTER!!!   LEAVE THOSE BUNNIES ALONE!!!!   Your Dad did NOT need one of those "old timey lucky rabbit's foot"! They went out of style a long time ago!

And you lost a tooth while trying  to wrangle this bunny!? WOW!!    You are one tuff dude!!!  I'm  glad that Rocky made sure the tooth you lost was the one that he had to get rid of.   CLEARLY  ROCKY  IS PRESENT IN VERY UNIQUE  WAYS!!😎😎😎

Definitely a major coincidence on the tooth front, David.

Your Rocky is making sure his little signs get to you one way or another.

I imagine Baxter will cool it on the 🐰 front if he does lure coursing ...

How about nose games (is this the correct word?) those are excellent to burn energy and should also be excellent for your boy to exercise his hunting skills.

Love the way Rocky is always present, David, he never leaves your side for long that sweet boy of yours 💕

Hugs and cuddles 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Keep looking, I'm going to bet there's a club nearby. Or maybe sheep herding? What you can do is to play up his strengths and channel them into a positive experience. If he's prey driven, things like herding activities can be a wonderful way to build a bond together. Or maybe scent detection work? Search and rescue? All of those things channel a dog's natural abilities into constructive work for them. Find out what kinds of activities and food gets him wild and crazy and run with it!

I know there are agility courses around here, so I'm sure there are other things I can find for him. When it cools off a bit, we'll start hitting up the dog park again, although he spends more time cozying up to the people there than playing with other dogs.

I always like to mark the anniversaries, so here's another one.

Sept. 20 - It was nine years ago today that I brought Rocky home for good.

I still remember picking him up. Him patiently sitting in the back seat of my car while I stood next to him talking with one of the wonderful foster parents who guided him through his recovery from heartworm. I still remember being told how they had fallen in love with him and had decided they'd adopt him if for some reason it didn't work out for me. I still remember making a stop at PetSmart to buy him a bunch of things before hitting the road to make the 3.5-hour drive home. And I remember how he recognized my house and yard when we got out of the car in my garage.

I'd love to go back to that day again and just start all over again.

And you can bet that Rocky is telling  everyone at the Bridge about that day too❤❤  Yes, he DEFINITELY knew he had a furever home with you.  He also knew no one...NO ONE....would love him more!  And he knew no dog...NO DOG...could ever love you as much as he did.  Unless, however, he picked out a dog for you himself which, as we all know, he did!!   He's  telling everyone at the Bridge about the day he brought Baxter into your heart.....and on his sofa!!!!   Yeah, he celebrates that day too❤

And we celebrate that Rocky brought you to us!  You are such an important part of the support and encouragement that is so desperately  needed by new members.  You always offer such good advice and share invaluable  knowldedge.

So Rocky, HAPPY GOTCHA' DAY sweet boy!! Dirty green tennis balls for everyone!!

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
