Hello! He's not an amputee but my boy was trapped in a door before he was rescued and his back legs aren't right - he drags one of his feet along, and he's started to get a very sore looking wound. Any tips on how I can help prevent this, and help it heal so it doesn't get worse?

Hope to hear some suggestions soon!

Welcome and best wishes for your boy! your future forum posts will not require moderation.

We've moved your topic here to the Three Legged Cats forum where it will get the most feedback from fellow cat members.

The best thing you can do is consult with a certified rehab practitioner to determine what exactly isn't "right" with the legs. While there is not yet any certification for feline rehab, most CCRT or CCRP therapists also work with can and can provide valuable information with a proper evaluation, recommended treatments or exercises you can do at home.

Dog owners often use booties, bandaging, or socks to prevent injury from dragging weak limbs. And a CCRP or CCRT would be the best person to ask for details.

While you wait for comments from other kitty members, use the Advanced Search above to refine your forum search results with specific phrases, and you're sure to find lots of helpful feedback. You can also search all blogs here . Or, consider downloading the Tripawd Cats e-book for more helpful feline rehab, exercise and mobility information

I agree,  it needs to be looked at by a professional.  If that leg isn't working,  it may be causing him more trauma by dragging it around.

That's similar to my Huckleberry. His rear leg was broken at the femur. The bone was snapped in half...i don't know how.  He was a feral stray that found his way into our yard.

Please see if you can get it looked at by a doctor.  If the wound goes too long it can get really ugly.

Please let us know how you make out!
