Has anyone had success with pellet litter?

I have four litter boxes for a multicat household and would like to gradually try changing to pellet litter. The dust from these clumping litters is getting out of control, it's just not healthy. I intend to start with the box that my tripawd kitty doesn't usually use. If that transition is sucessful, I plan to do one of the primary boxes next, followed by the other primary box, then the tripawd kitty's box last.

Looking at the pellet litter, I'm concerned about whether a tripawd cat would actually be ok using it? Mine had his hind leg amputated and he uses the litter box ok. I'm just worried about stability and mobility with the pellet litter. I'm also not sure what it would be like to walk/hop around on it. Has anyone used it successfully?

Ohhh boy that's a good question for our feline friends, I'm hoping they chime in with their experiences.

If it's any help, I've been here a long time and have never heard about any Tripawd cats having issue with pellet litter being too slippery or wobbly.

If I recall correctly, pellet litter breaks down into sawdust as it gets wet, right? If your tripawd kitty struggles with it when it's still in pellet form, maybe you could add a little water to help break it down when you add new litter to the box?

Hi there. I also have a rear-amp tripawd cat, Jet. I currently use a corn-based litter (World's Best), and the dust is minimal. But I have been considering using pine pellets, as it's less expensive. I don't think it'd be a problem for tripawds; the pellets seem small enough that it should be stable.

My 8 year old cat had her hind leg removed two weeks ago, and she has been using a low sided litter box with Fresh News pellet litter since she got home without any issues. She was using Tidy Cats (quite dusty) litter before the surgery.

Hi!  I recently brought home a new puppy who was litter box trained with pine pellets.  I cannot speak to how a cat would do, but I can recommend these pine pellets from Tractor Supply Co.  A 40lb bag is about $7, they break down into sawdust, and they control odor quite well!

Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com

A puppy that's litter box trained....only in the big city! And what a great idea. More city folks should do this. It's such a lifesaver if a dog has an injury and can't walk out of an apartment building and down to the street. Ooops I"m off topic! Thanks for the recommendation.
