It is the night before Fuzz's amputation surgery and I am a mess... he has been a trooper up until today... I planned on spending the evening just laying with him watching tv and loving on him like a normal night, however, when I arrived home from work today something had changed with him.  He was hiding, hissing, growling when approached and was not interested in food.  The limp was very more pronounced and I suspect he is in horrible pain or has hurt himself jumping/walking/etc.  Last night when I went to bed he was his normal happy self, purring, getting around with his hitch step and eating fine and then fast forward to the day today while I am at work-something happened.  I feel awful, devastated and so heart broken because I wanted to spend the night loving on him and petting him.. he won't even let me near and hisses when I approach.  I was able to get his gabapentin in and got him to eat a little bit about 2/3 of a can of moist food along with a spoon of whip cream and a small piece of rotisserie chicken.  His eyes are huge and dilated and I can tell he feels awful.  I contacted hospital and they said that it is most likely just pain and everything to proceed as normal- of course pre op prep will actually determine if surgery can occur.  So we are slated to be at Metropolitan between 0700 and 0730 and Fuzz is scheduled for his operation at 1030.  He is currently hiding from me in dark corner of living room after I chased him up out of basement where he has been hiding most of the night.  My heart breaks for him knowing this is coming tomorrow and he is suffering suddenly today after so long prepping the past few weeks and him having no apparent issues or pain other than a slight limp.  I ask that you all send some love and positive energy to Fuzz over the next few hours.  I will do my best to return and update and keep checkins with his recovery.  My fear is the post surgery shock and getting him to eat as today was such a struggle in addition to getting medications and hydration in him.  I have bought soooo many different brands, types, flavors and textures of food from dehydrated, to broth, to pate, to kitten mousse, to treats, to every other type of wet food and several varities of dry food to hopefully have something he will be turned on to.  I have bought him new pads to sleep on, a new bigger top load carrier and low rise/disposable litter boxes.  I kept a large cardboard box to convert into a cave too.  I also picked him up a cute little stuffed toy with catnip to cuddle with. Fuzz has been my feline friend for 10.5 years and has been such a loving and personable cat.  I am so torn up with this diagnosis and now how he is feeling and the pending amputation.  I know I will not sleep much but I am going to try to rest my worrisome mind and heart for a few... until tomorrow... Melissa and Fuzz....

((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))

Oh Melissa, we all feel how upset you are and understand  completely.  Seeing our critters in pain is gutwrenching.

If you had any doubt at all that Fuzz needed this surgery, he made it clear to ight he is ready for it!

You are doing all you can do for him right now with the Gaba.  Hopefully, that will help take the edge off.  It's  possible that the leg has a small fracture in it due.  He will be rid of that bum leg none to soon

Just continue  to take deep breaths...seriously, deep breaths...and know that you are fully prepared to help Fuzz through recovery.  You have done a great job of preparation  for his homecoming and  making sure all hs needs are taken care of.

And we are here to help you, okay?  Stay connected .  And remember,  we have the free TRIPAWDS HELPLINE 1 844 TRIPAWD.

I won't  say try and get some rest, because  that's  a ridiculous  suggestion, right??  Well, try and take a quick "cat nap" every now and then, okay?

Sending extra ((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Oh boy, not the night you had planned on, so very sorry. Keeping you in our thoughts today, in a few hours the cause of pain will be gone and you will be on the path to recovery. The hospital meds that they are going to give him for the surgery will take all that pain away, and he will have relief.

You have totally prepared yourself for success, try to get some rest if you can. Fuzz is one lucky little dude to have you for a mama sp_hearticon2

Sending you an extra huge hug, will try to look for updates as I can at work.
