Strange night last night. Pain meds maybe, or just not comfy, or we have a food aggressive kitty lol. David got bit yesterday when he tried to take the (empty) food bowl. He tried to nail me last night doing the same. I was a bad mama.. I swatted back and told him to behave. Oh the look I got... he sulked a bit and then got over it. He is not on much for meds and only has a couple of days left. I have one of the buprenorphine, and I think 3 gaba left. I gave him one of each last night and he was ok for the rest of the evening. Fancy Feast, the Fancy Feast broth are working well. I did like you did Holly with the gaba in the juice, and syringed it to him.. that was so much better than trying to mix it with tuna and wait for him to eat it. His appetite is slowly getting better with the gravy like foods.
I wish I could move his crate into the sunroom during the day, but that thing is HUGE! You have to break it down just to get it in and out of the room, let alone downstairs. I open the window and turn the ceiling fan on for him when the days are nice. Soon, hopefully he will be out of the crate. I just want to keep an eye on that incision a little longer where it is more controlled.
Oscar it a total trip, he is such a smart kitty. He has to do things the way HE sees fit, regardless of the consequences. He really is funny, and sweet. That is the one that races me up the stairs every morning and evening to drink water out of the sink and make sure I brush my teeth correctly He also helps me wash dishes, lol.
Yes the days have been a blurr...first week back to work, I need another vacation lol...I can see one of these 8:00 bedtimes coming real soon
Hugs,

Good Job Jackie on the Gaba it is easier that way and it’s going in with less fight.
So is Huckleberry getting one dose of meds in the evening ? The Bup and the Gaba? At least a hour apart. I know you only have one Bup left, I don’t remember the reason now on why our instructions were to give them one hour apart but remember it was make sure to give at least a hour apart. Glad to hear his appetite is proving ! As long as he is eating don’t fret!
Love the video’s of Oscar and Huckleberry playing your making huge strides are they hissing at all? I couldn’t tell on the video? I would still be careful when you let Huckleberry out of the cage, wait until your off and see how they do once Huckleberry is free. I would be ready just like Petra said have a towel be ready to break things up if need be. It might just be smooth sailing. I would let Huckleberry out in your room for a day or so and see how he does alone, Let him get his new walk and feel to him. Let them play under the door and see how that goes, then more baby steps. I would want Huckleberry confident and ready before just setting him free. Just a suggestion, we all do stuff different and whatever works for you guys works.
I know with our guys when they get playing Purrkins can get knocked over with unexpected attack from behind, not sure if that is the same with rear leggers.
Have a good day!
Hugs

He is slowly eating and drinking more, still no . I just got off the phone with my husband and he told me that Oscar removed some of the blanket from Huckleberry's crate again, Huck was standing in his litter box (on the one leg) and playing toesies with Oscar. They were both perky, seemed to enjoy the play, no hissing, growling, or foul play. Now he is sleeping. David adds a small amount of water to the wet food when he has dried it up, so he is getting some fluids along with the food.
I am going to close the door to Huckleberry's room for the first day or so when I open up the crate, just to let him adjust. Andy will be my guinea pig when I finally do allow visitation, and it will be totally supervised. If that goes well I may let Andy stay while I rustle Oscar up just because Andy seems to bring peace to things. When I eventually open that door, Huck will have full run of the house except for rooms that have doors. Our house is so open that other than closing doors off to the rooms, it will be impossible to keep him either upstairs or downstairs because of the other furbabies. I had a cat get caught on a baby gate one time and he really hurt himself so I do not want to go there again. I had planned on fixing the gate that I returned with something really tall in front of it so that he could not scale it or get caught up in it.

You can give Huckleberry 1/16th to 1/8 tsp Miralax 2 days a day, tiny doses I only gave Purrkins one dose a day. His brother I give 2 X a day. Great on adding water to his food. Really important ! You can do the pumpkin as you used to if Huckleberry will eat it great!
We had experience with a baby gate too and cats will scale them. We stacked 3 high in a doorway and they still scaled the??!?!
Sounds like you have a good plan in place.

I love the videos of the cats playing. Oscar is finding that Huckleberry might just be useful for something. A new playmate!
You are doing such a great job with your plan to help Huckleberry to live indoors with two new friends. I'm sure it will go well as both Andy and Oscar are already interested in the new guy.

OMC the volcano has finally erupted!
It has been one week since he pooped. His poor belly felt like a bag of marbles. When I worked at the animal hospital, the docs would all grab me to de-obstipate the kitties, that was one of my specialties. A million years ago, I lost my Falcor to mega colon long before they had anything but pumpkin and enemas twice a day to try and keep them pooping. Needless to say, constipation is not a good subject for me. I made a command decision yesterday. It was his last day of antibiotics and I knew one of the three meds was not helping this matter. He had miralax in his water, and once a day I put 1/8 t in some gravy which he had no problem with. We kept adding water to his canned food too. No pain meds last night... none. It has been 14 days post op and I believe that is a reasonable amount of time to reevaluate his pain level med free. His attitude was pretty good other than looking uncomfortable, but who would not be miserable with a week's worth of poop in their intestine?? So no pain meds. I woke up this morning and Mt. Vesuvius 'sploded into the litter box!! I swear I think he was smiling this morning! I got BIG head butts, purrrrrs, and an appetite! Mama is relieved!

Congratulations Momma!! I remember that feeling well!
Rusty "The Bunnyman" adopted us in 2014. Aug/Sept 2017, back left leg amputated (HSA cancer). He remained cancer free over 900 days. Cancer returned as of emergency visit on day 931. 15 days later, he gained his wings 04/18/2020 due to congestive heart failure. He will always watch over his fellow tripawds and their hoomins with Head Scritches and Sand Paper Kisses.

YAAAAAAY FOR Mt. Vesuvius!!!! Thank God heh Prince Huckleberry?!!! You must be feeling like the world has been lifted from your belly!
Jackie, I know that we all sound like broken records, but we so know how hoppy you are right now!!! We may have been telling you not to worry so much about his poo, it will happen... but when you’ve already lost a baby to colon issues, I can totally understand your anxieties! Good girl for taking charge and getting rid of those pain meds and VERY GOOD BOY HUCKLEBERRY for being so strong for MUM!
As I have discovered, pain meds are our true nemesis!!! We’re damned if we do and we’re damned if we don’t! But we are all troupers aren’t we...? and we persevere through the storm to get to the 💩 💩 💩 and then we have a pawty!!!
Well done Prince Huckleberry, we all feel for you and I know that I feel quite satisfied for you at the moment!
Cuddles and many ear rubs to you all...

Thank you, thank you! I am so relieved. And your support has been amazing and so appreciated by our family! I came home tonight not knowing what I would walk in to 24 hours total medication free. My little one was wonderful! I just head butted him, gave him a good massage, inconspicuously inspected his incision, and just gave and got lovin' Every time I come home I rip his den apart, shove two or three meds down his throat, and talk sweet to him. Tonight I decided that I was just going to love on my little man and not look at the bit of litter scattered on his pee pad. We only changed out his litter box. He was all purrrrs and knitting when I sat with him, oh my .. it was wonderful! I conned the rest of the crew into the bedroom with treats... we gave all of them treats while we sat together and they were all content
I spoke with the Doc today. She was concerned about my disappointment with the experience. I was a good girl!!! I kept my composure (surprisingly) and explained that I thought it was shocking to have them charge me 78.00 for a bottle of antibiotics that I could get retail online for 32.00-38.00. Her response was that you never know where that stuff is coming from, blah blah blah...
*Cough cough* anyhow.. I got my records back, we bartered back and forth for about 15 minutes, and I left on a very neutral but positive note.
Yay! I can change color now!
Hehehe.. and my thought for the evening:

How’s it going Jackie? Hope Huckleberry is coming in and out of his crate now? I second Petras advice in the other forum move his food outside of the crate, maybe let Huckleberry be on his own without his feline family around see if that helps.
It is a safe haven for him now, thats ok leave the crate until he decides he is done with it. Hope all is going well!
Hugs,
Holly & Purrkins❤️
Hi!
All is going pretty well. I have come to the conclusion that house life for the Hucksters is going to be like everything else we have done. One day at a time. He came out of the crate yesterday at first ONLY when I was not in the room, lol. Once he came out, he guarded the door as if to say "This is my escape hatch... just go ahead and open it and I will be FREE!" Sigh.. he even walked around for David. Of course going in to the room foot first did not help my dilemma lol. I went in, he ran back to his crate. I even went up with some delicious stinky food and placed it outside of his crate on one of his blankets that smelled like him. It took forever but finally he came out just briefly, sniffed around and then back to the crate. After I closed the doors to the crate we all went in with toys and catnip. The boys showed him how to play a little, and he was good. He slept crated last night and this morning he came out and sat on my lap knitting in the air. I could not believe that he was actually sitting on me, it was so nice. I took Andy in with me a little later and they got some nose to nose time, then Huckles decided that Andy needed a bath.. THAT was funny! Andy looked at him like " what on earth are you doing??" But it was all good So today we have been in and out, he has been out of the crate a few times and is getting a little more curious. There is tons in that room to explore, but we have a young man that until just a few weeks ago had never been in a house. Never saw furniture, or curled up on a bed or chair, so this is all new to him and a little scary. I have the window to his room cracked a little for fresh air and he heard a dog start to bark like crazy. First thing he did was head to his box. He did not realize that he was safe. I kept talking to him and petting him, he finally realized he was safe. This is all new for me also. I realized yesterday that this will be a learning experience for all of us. I have never tried to adopt an adult kitty that is a purebred feral, lol. Any that I have handled have been ready to domesticate, or so young that I was able to teach them early. I probably need to do more reading up on this, I believe I am out of my element here. For now we will take baby steps and go slowly. As he progresses I will give him run of the room more and more, but I don't want to overwhelm him. If I go slowly and take my time, maybe he will be like Petra's kitties and learn to love having a forever home. He certainly seems to love David and I. The house thing? I think he is uncertain. That's ok, I have all the time in the world
I have a few pictures that I am fighting to upload. Trying Amazon Drive for the first time.. don't think I like it

OMC & D!!!! You REALLY are doing everything right you guys!!!
Patience is going to be your best friend with Prince Huckleberry! As a feral, he has no idea about the comforts and safety of a house. He knows that there are a lot of walls and doors in the way! He knows the security of the crate, he isn’t sure about the closed in space we call a bedroom... Give him plenty of time to adjust to EVERY NEW SITUATION that he needs to face.
Love, love love the pics!!! Andy & Oscar are showing him the ropes as he goes! They are doing a brilliant job! And sitting on your lap! Jackie, these are huge steps in a beautiful direction! It is only recently that Miss Lily will let us pick her up without feeling the need to escape! Escape! Escape! She is not a lap cat and protests very loudly when I trim her nails on my lap! She’s very good and doesn’t move! But she is a Siamese and has a LOT TO SAY!!! Oh, the cat tails we could tell!😹 As I write she flying around the house like a Tazmanian Devil!👹 Good thing Chessie is outdoors or we would all be in trouble! 😼😈👹
Take your time Huckleberry, no need to worry about the monsters outdoors anymore my lovey! Stay close to your family and you will always be safe!
May your day be filled with lap snuggles!
