Good morning Jackie, although it must feel like mid afternoon to you and Holly! Geez you guys, even the cats must look at you like your crazy!!!clown

Jackie, I ditto all that Holly said... a bed is the purrrrfect safe haven, especially for a retired feral. Miss Lily uses it in a regular basis in our house and for the most part I only have to rattle her treat container to get her back out. Spikey, being the Strong dominant fella that he is has never hidden under the bed. (Probably cause he was too big!)

If you can, I would do what Holly suggested and just put the mattress in the floor, for now, until Huckleberry gets secure in his total surroundings. There was a foster incident with a member of the animal rescue group, that I volunteer with, lost a kitten in their very small bedroom.... not much furniture, a bed and a dresser. They were in a complete panick, thinking that the cat must have gotten out somehow, but finally found him INSIDE the mattress. There was a tiny hole that he wriggled into and they had to cut the bottom f the mattress open to get to him!!!big-grin

My biggest concern about any of the cats under the bed, is during an emergency and I need to reach them. But I figure if that ever happens, I will have an adrenaline rush going and will just pull the bed apart! I am a bit of an over worrier!!!blush

Have a great day with your Powerful and Beautiful Pride! 🦁❤️

Personally, I try not to fuss about where the cats go to hide to feel safe. I know Mona always goes under the bed and I have no idea where Eli goes. I figure a cat is going to do whatever it wants. If it needs a hiding spot, one will be found.

I like the idea of keeping the crate up for awhile until Huckleberry has the house figured out and finds his safe place that meet your standards. When Mona moved in she checked out the whole house, opened every closet door and then I found her sleeping in the middle of my bed! I guess that was her safe place.

Oooooh, you have some adventures ahead with your dear prince exploring his new palace. It should be funsuperstar

Good morning!

Mr. Prince Huckleberry did it again to my husband yesterday. I think I may have found the spot. David called on expert Sir Andy to come and fetch him from under the bed and it worked. I think for recovery purposes I would like to keep him out of that area. We had another cat named Molly, she was mostly Siamese and she was so shy that sometimes you didn't even know there was another cat in the house. When I moved here she hid for months. She only came out at night when everybody was sleeping. It took me years to get her to come out and explore, it was just her personality I guess. David had her since she was a little thing. She finally came around after much hard work and it was so good for her not to be hiding all the time. I guess I am just hoping that Huck is young and energetic enough that this wont happen again. Thank you everybody! His crate is still up, that won't be going away any time soon. I will probably bring it back downstairs once he gains free run of the house so that he has a safe haven. When he is secure in his new home and not using it then it will come down. That video of Rusty was amazing, gives me hope that Huckleberry will be able to get around well and that will be a beautiful thing! Big hugs to all heartheart Happy birthday Gina, I hope you had a WONDERFUL day!

Good news! Huckleberry has found the bed,  not that it doesn't take up 2/3 of the room 😂😂

He only found it  looking for his escape hatch in to the middle of under the bed,  but mama secured it (or so she thinks) but that's another chapter.. David WATCHED Huck jump from the floor to the bed looking for his stash-

Oh yay!! I got the copy paste thingy on my cell *big grin* that's my boy trying to escape.  Andy jumped up on the bed while Huck was frantic and this is what happened:

Sweetie!

Rusty "The Bunnyman" adopted us in 2014.  Aug/Sept 2017, back left leg amputated (HSA cancer).  He remained cancer free over 900 days. Cancer returned as of emergency visit on day 931. 15 days later, he gained his wings 04/18/2020 due to congestive heart failure.  He will always watch over his fellow tripawds and their hoomins with Head Scritches and Sand Paper Kisses.

Glad to see things are on the upswing now! Patience is your best friend. Huckleberry has found the comfort spot now! When you can't get in the bed with all your kitties don't complainwinker We should of bought a king size bed so we can all comfortable sleep in the bed. Purrkins usually ends up on my chest anyway so it's only me not moving;) This is not a complaint! When he gets on my face I complain! laughing

Keep it up Huckleberry you look very content and handsome great picture!

Is he on the supplement now & gaba ? Things are going better ? It sure looks that way?

Still waiting for my meds to come in,  I didn't think would take this long.  He's off and on. When he starts bathing I'm learning to give him his space.  I have not seen him actually jump like he did,  it would be easy to miss untaped. I do see him go from calm to bathing out of the blue. When he does that i have to leave him alone sometimes or get bitten.  He's getting better slowly.  I have a video I took a little while ago,  its adorable.

Well, this is the longest I think I have let him stay out of his crate. Both he and Andy are on the bed still. He is just too comical, but it is really sweet to see him trying so hard to learn. Before, and still now sometimes, if I enter or am roaming around the room he tries to hide. Today, just he and Andy in the room, I walked in and he immediately looks at Andy to see what his reaction will be. I walk over to Andy and he starts purring. When Huck sees that Andy is not fearful then he steps on over for attention. If he had not been hanging around for so long I would swear that he is still a kitten. Its really nice.

I may have a harder time medicating him while he has free run of the room. I opened some tuna and drained the juice out. I put about 1 1/2t of tuna juice in ice cube slots and I am freezing it now. I will transfer to ziplock bags and then I won't have to worry about it going bad. I don't know what the supplement will be like, maybe I will get lucky and it will be some kind of chew that he will love.....wishful thinking Jackie laughinglaughing

Big hugs smiley

Adorable video Huckleberry bathing Andy. Huckleberry is going to be a little Andy he is learning everything as he goes. Andy is a very special kitty!

That supplement is a capsule you just sprinkle on the food. No chew, but shouldn’t be a fight to get it in him. Sprinkle on wet food or the gravy you were giving him. Good thinking on the tuna juice!

Oh that is good news 🙂  I tried something this morning.  I have just a few of the gaba left, I did not want to start before the prescription came in, hopefully I have enough to last until then. Anyhow, I took the capsule (100 mg) and sprinkled it on to a plate. I took a flat sharp object and split the amount in half. I microwaved the tuna cube for 10 sec and mashed the powder of 1/2 capsule  into the tuna juice. I took a Fancy Feast broth and poured that over, mashed it beyond recognition with a fork.  Before I fed Huck breakfast I gave him that as a treat while I cleaned his bowls. He ate it all. I am going to try the 50mg to start. Maybe with that small amount of powder my husband will be able to medicate him when I am not home. If he stops eating it I will show David how to give it to him with a syringe.

P.S. I just finished retrieving "The Prince" out from underneath the bed again madlittle-devilmadhe is SUCH a stinker... grrr..

Anybody know that song "I don't like Mondays"? I am so glad the day is about over.  Came home,  Huck was not only under the bed,  but I could not see him.  I called and called,  nothing😣 he must have made a maze out of the stuff we strategically shoved under the bed!

That was mama's last straw.  The last thing I felt like doing was rearranging the room, lol. We took the small arsenal of pillows,  blankets,  pillows,  comforters, did I mention pillows? Out from under the bed,  chased said cat into his crate,  grrr... flipped the box spring,  mattress,  and removed the DANG bed frame.  Mr. Feral Prince Huckleberry sat in his crate,  almost looking amused😲😲 and observed from a distance (Anybody out there ever watch Wild Kingdom?)

I told him he was in time- out and promptly left the room.  I caved after about 20 minutes and went up with his medicated gravy and a bunch of hugs and kisses.  He finally, although begrudgingly , caved also😁. Once the purr motor started he was done for.

I guess as long as he doesn't figure out how to rip the mattress and burrough into the middle of it we should be ok. Buh bye Monday,  mama's pooped!!

Big hugsheartheart
