Is there perhaps any tips that anyone can give me that I can do so long to prepare for when he comes home from surgery?  Or what I can expect?  The vets said he'll likely stay there after surgery for 2-3 days and it usually takes around 2-4 weeks for recovery. Anything else I need to know?

All great questions! Our What to Expect articles cover the basics, and our Tripawds Recovery Shopping List is a helpful place to see what kinds of things you might want to consider getting to "Tripawd-proof" your home.

So, after waiting weeks. We finally received a call from the vet on Sunday. They wanted to do the amputation on Monday. Making things a bit more complicated my husband and I both got Covid. Nonetheless we were able to make a plan to get TumTum to the vet. The surgery went well, and he was able to come home Wednesday. My house is quite the hospital at the moment with us two having covid and TumTum recovering in a separate room. But so far so good. The doctors have him on antibiotics, Gabapantin and an anti inflammatory as well. He doesn’t seem to be in pain. If anything he seems very happy (a little high at times). He is very cuddly and loving. And just wants out of the room although the doctor suggested he stay there for a week or so. He is eating well and pooping and hopping around rather comfortably. Any suggestions on anything else I can do or look out for?

Such asweetie😘

I know it was a long  road getting here,  but wonderful to hear how well Tum Tum is doing.

You have her on a good pain management   plan that seems to be working  for her. Slow and easy for now and it will be well worth it for her future well being.  I think you'll be amazed st jow well she will, do  asatripawd with no pain and nothing hindering her.

Try and get some rest for you and hour husband.  You need to recover too!

Awww that sweet Tum Tum. I'm so glad he made it through surgery and he's home. smiley_clap

Geez I'm sorry you are dealing with Covid and Tum Tum's recovery right now. Yikes! Admin and I both had Covid a while back, I cannot imagine dealing with the extra stress of amputation recovery. You two are angels to this sweet boy and clearly love him so much.

He is eating well and pooping and hopping around rather comfortably. Any suggestions on anything else I can do or look out for?

Based on what you described, Tum Tum is a total rock star! I would say if any of those things you mentioned (eating, drinking, eliminating) change over the next few days, then let your vet know. Some new Tripawds do regress after the initial surgery pain medications wear off but as long as you keep ahead of his post-op pain and stay on the meds schedule, he should be good.

Keep us posted. Snuggle up together and be good to yourself too! Get well soon!
