So, the incontinence issues continue...the Proin isn't having any effect. Tomorrow he goes to the vet for lab work and x-rays to hopefully figure out what's going on. I've been spending way too much time with Dr. Google, and have worked myself into a frenzy!

His vet wants to look at his bladder, see if its perhaps stones; I'm convinced its either kidney failure (not at the top of her list, by the way), or bladder cancer. He is active, playful, eating well, and peeing ALOT! I'm praying for the strength to handle whatever the diagnosis is, but I'm scared.....as scared as I was 18 months ago waiting to hear the verdict. Please, please, please Tripawd Nation - keep him and us in your prayers tonight! Thank you

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Maggie developed kidney failure and it was really easy to diagnose with blood work or a urine sample (I don't remember).  She also had become noticeably picky with her food and lost weight.

Stay away from the computer!  (unless it is here)  You are not doing Nitro any good getting frantic.  He is happy (although a little damp) so be happy with him.  You can handle this!

See what the vet finds tomorrow then make a plan to take it on!

Sending strong, positive thoughts for Nitro and you.

Karen

p.s. when Maggie became incontinent I did so much laundry I broke my dryer!

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.

Paula you know what Sally would say.  B R E A T H E!!!  As Karen said do NOT use Google!  It plays with your mind.  Just keep positive thoughts going and see what they say at the vet tomorrow.  Sending you TONS of positive vibes.....use as needed!  My personal RX.

When my cat went into kidney failure, she was losing weight and her labs were off.  She was also thirsty alllll the time.

Prayers for good news!

Paula, you and Nitro definitely have my prayers.  But as others have mentioned, kidney failure typically shows up with the dog not feeling well, losing weight and also losing strength, and not eating well...and Nitro doesn't have any of these symptoms.  Hoping you get good news tomorrow for something that is easily treated.

I'll definitely be keeping sweet Nitro in my thoughts tomorrow.  I pray it will be something minor and easy to handle.

Prayers for our Nitro.  Dr Google is no good at all.  I just think its still the cystitis like I told you in the chat.  Dr Boyer said it could be up to 4 months before it is completely gone from the spasms.  I am glad you are taking him in though to give you piece of mind.  Although the waiting is killing you up til then.

Breathe, lots of chocolate & lots of wine LOL

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS!

The vet could find nothing wrong with Nitro today, after blood work, urinalysis, x-rays, ultrasound.....I am SO relieved with this non-diagnosis! She is going to try him on antibiotics, even though his urine culture previously was negative. Perhaps, as Michelle suggested, its just the left-over effects of the cystitis from the Cytoxan; hopefully, in time, the incontinence will resolve itself, or at least lessen. Since the Proin had no effect, we're stopping that and putting him back on his anti-inflammatory starting Friday. He has a chiropractic adjustment tomorrow, so I'll be picking her brain for any homeopathic remedies for the wetting. So the hoof beats weren't zebras, and not even a horse, but just a pony!

Thanks for all your advice, and own experiences...it meant a lot for me to hear them. A special thanks to Sally, who talked to me on the helpline for 30 min. - its a good thing that my breaks aren't any longer than that!

Paula and Nitro

P.S. while he was getting x-rays today, my vet peeked at his lungs (since they were right there); and while it wasn't a comprehensive look, she saw no mets!clap

WHEEEE!!! That's awesome Paula, really relieved to hear that. No mets? DOUBLE BONUS!!!!
And ditto, thank you Sally!

By the way folks, this is a reminder that just because a drug is "supposed" to do something, that's no guarantee that it will work the same on everyone, if at all. Whether we're talking people or pets, drugs aren't always a sure-thing and sometimes it just takes trying different ones before you resolve the issue.

YAY NITRO!

I'm just catching up, but I'm glad I'm doing so after your non-diagnosis.  Way to go.  Sorry he keeps worrying you, but glad there is nothing to be found.  Give that boy a hug.
