I want to introduce you to Buffy who is a Tripawd Golden Retriever.  Buffy's story begins when she was a stray and had been hit by a car.  A good samaritan found her lying along side the road and took her to the local Humane Society.  Her age was estimated to be 18 months old at the time.  Surgery was performed to put pins in her leg in an attempt to save it.  We have always rescued senior shelties so when the Humane Society asked if we would FOSTER this young Golden Retriever until her leg healed, I said no problem.  We would return her to the HS at the proper time and put her up for adoption.  Can you say Failed Foster !?  Buffy's leg was too crushed for the pins to hold so the decision was made to amputate.  The decision was also made to adopt this baby - Sheltie or not.  Shortly after we adopted Buffy, we attended pet therapy classes.  I had shelties that were therapy dogs, and was curious as to how Buffy would do.  She aced it!  She has been a certified therapy dog for approximately 3 1/2 years now.  She works every week at our local Children's Hospital and brightens the lives of not only the children, but the staff as well.  She also works at the Care House which is a children's advocacy place.  Her interaction with these kids is quite inspiring to see.  The kids have been through so much but when they give Buffy a hug, it just makes everyone sit back and smile.  Through Buffy's work at the Care House and Children's Hospital, she is now allowed to accompany these kids to the court house and provide some much needed support.  Our local County Appeals Court recently started a Women's Therapeutic Program of which Buffy was the first therapy dog to participate.  The response by these women to having a dog inside the courtroom for them to interact with has been nothing short of phenomenal.  Buffy enjoys her "work" and certainly everyone she comes in contact with enjoys her.  She also has participated in various school reading programs for the kids in our area.  It's amazing to see the kids read to a dog when they won't read in a classroom.  We are very proud of our TriPawd.  Just goes to show it's not the number of legs you have, it's what's in your heart that matters.
