Wasn't sure whether to post this in Beyond Cancer or Ask a Vet, feel free to move it![Image Can Not Be Found]

While examining Jaime's incision today, I noticed a red bump near the incision - maybe half an inch in diameter. The only emergency vet nearby is expensive and...less than satisfactory. I'm going to make an appointment for him at my regular vet for Friday, unless I feel the need to rush him to emergency for some reason. But I thought I'd get your guy's opinion. I'm thinking a seroma or a suture reaction? Sorry if the pic is a little gruesome. Image Enlarger

It is pretty small. Keep a watch on his temp. If he runs a fever, contact your vet ASAP. Seromas are usually pretty large I think although, Jamie is pretty tiny. May be a suture working its way out. I think his inscision looks pretty good over all. I am certainly not an expert. Maybe someone who knows more will chime in. Hugs from Lori and TY

Wow his incision does look great!

Could be a suture reaction, definitely worth having your vet look at if it doesn't go away.

I think it looks like a stitch coming out of there.  I could be wrong but that is what I think.  I don't think its anything to take him to an ER for unless he is running fever etc.  Just take him to the regular vet

Jaime's incision site is healing nicely...it's not "gruesome" at all!!

I'm not sure what that little bump is and like others have said just keep check on his temp.  If temp is fine he can probably go until you get him in with the regular vet...I agree the ER visits are quite pricey.

Thanks for all your advice! I'm going to take him into the vet on Saturday. I'm pretty sure it's internal suture related, whether it's a reaction or a suture working its way out. I just hope the vet can sort it out! I'm sooo ready for all the vet visits to be done with. It hasn't gotten bigger or smaller, but it does look a little redder today. His temp seems to be fine and he's got lots of energy...but he is a little smelly today. Usually he smells fantastic, but today he's putting off this icky milky smell. Just crossing my fingers that it's not infected.

I considered taking him to ER, but the only close ER is where I took Peace after the accident and while the staff was nice..they weren't totally respectful with him. It was a hard thing to watch and if I ever have to go back there it's going to be a difficult thing. So here's hoping for no emergencies, haha!

Thought I'd share some post-op photos I took the other day. Nothing special, but shows how much he's grown! The last picture is one the rescue just posted of his mama!

YES....SPECIAL!!! VERY SPECIAL INDEED!!! ADORABLY SPECIAL!!!!!

Peace knew exactley what he was doing by bringingnJamie into your life! What a cutie pie!

His momma looks so much like a dog who owned me for twelve years...her name was Biscuit! I love his momma! She'll be adopted in no time!

Yeah, I don't blame you at all for not going back to that ER place. Sounds like Jamie is having a "stitch" issue with maybe someninfection. Yeah, definitely get him to the vet Saturday to get it taken care of.

Thanks for posting these pictures tonight...they are soo cute!

Extra hugs to all!

Awwww he is so darn CUTE! And look at how hoppy he looks too. So sweet. Thanks for sharing.

I hope the vet visit goes well. You're staying on top of monitoring the bump, that's good. I think that you're doing GREAT, keep it up and let us know what the vet says.

Sorry for the delay, I got so caught up in work! They sure do keep me busy there!

I took Jaime to the vet as planned, and she felt the incision and agreed that it was a suture reaction. She was going to put him on antibiotics, but he had thrown up in the car that morning and hadn't finished his breakfast, so she decided to hold off to spare his poor stomach. I kept an eye on it, and the bump got kind of scaly and then disappeared! The incision looks pretty good right now, except that thick knotted part at the bottom. He just recently started to lick it and it's gotten pretty dry. It's also the only part of the wound that hasn't started growing hair back! I stop him from bothering it, but I think it's just a waiting game. I know it's nothing compared to all the things the brave dogs on this site go through post-amp, but I CANNOT wait for him to be all furry again.

On another note, we've started training! We do a short session each night with a clicker and some treats. He's now a master at sit, lay down, and stay! And last night he started rolling over! I find that we have to keep the sessions short though, or we both start to lose our temper :P I love him, but when he gets in one of his 'cracker' dog moves he can drive you crazy!!!

Love this little guh!! And he sounds like one feisty fella'! But whennyou're that cute and have beennthrough so much, being a little "feisty" is well deserved!!

Really glad you updated us. We worry about "family" when we don't hear from them.

Yeah, it can take wuite awhile for the fur to start growing back sometimes. The "knotiness" will eventually subside too. I was going to suggest maybe rubbing a little coconut oil on the scar......duh on me....little Jamie would surely be licking it then!!!

Has his momma been adopted yet?

Don't work too hard and thanks again for the update! Peace gave you a little bundle of joy, that's for sure!!!

Thanks for all the kind replies! Unfortunately, though the bump has gone more problems have popped up! A tiny open sore has appeared near the incision and I think I may even spot a little bit of the sutures sticking out...yuck! Back to the vet tomorrow! I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Sorry for the lack of posts. As you guys have probably noticed, I'm a sporadic poster! Jaime ended up not going to the vet, because the next morning the sore had scabbed over and it's healed pretty nicely. I put his shirt back on for a couple days so that he wouldn't bothered and all was well...until tonight. He's had his shirt on for about a week so I thought I'd give him a break from it. Within hours he was bleeding. I'm not quite sure what he did or when as I wasn't paying very careful attention apparently, but he must have chewed or itched or something. There was a little wound though it produced quite a bit of blood so I cleaned it up as best I could and put the shirt back on. The closure part of the incision also looks a little strange, maybe a little vein-y. I thought he'd be past bothering it at over a month post-op - I have no idea what the hec is going on!!! May have to resort to an e-collar when I'm away :/ Gonna try to make it the vets early tomorrow morning and still get to work on time. Maybe I'll leave him in puppy day care for the day. I think the post-op process may just be extra difficult because he's got all that puppy energy and mischievousness.

Oh Jaime!!  You little stinker...you need to leave your incision alone so it can completely heal you silly fella!!!!

Yeah pups can find all kinds of mischief to get themselves into and you pretty much have to "hover" while they're awake...lol...winker

Keep us posted on how things go at the vets...it sounds like Mister Jaime may need to keep his shirt on 24/7 till he completely heals.
