Knoxville, TN - My experiences with vets

These are my experiences with the vets we've used in the Farragut/West Knox area:

Farragut Animal Clinic - 10226 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37922 - This is the vet we've settled on.  Dr. Alexander and Dr. Brown have been very kind to Millie.  They are good, established, reputable vets, and it is obvious to me that they are there first and foremost for your pet, not for the money.  Everything they've done, they've gotten a second opinion on...which says to me that they want to arrive at the proper diagnosis.  When they couldn't diagnose, they sent us to a specialist.  Dr. Alexander even called me at home to see how Millie's trip to the specialist went.  There are no appointments at this clinic; it is first come, first served. Somehow, though, the wait is never longer than 20 minutes at the longest.  They are very flexible with payment as well. I Highly recommend.

Concord Animal Clinic - 11904 Kingston Pike Knoxville, TN 37934 - This is the vet we used for two years prior to Millie's cancer.  We had no problems with them during all of Millies routine checkups and vaccinations.  The problem arose when she started limping. Initially we took her there when she first started to limp, and they said it looked like an injury, gave her some Rimadyl and sent her home.  Three months later her limp was worse, and I took her in for xrays.  They ran them, gave us more Rimadyl and an antibiotic, and told us to come back in 2 weeks.  We came back, ran more xrays, and Dr. Jennifer said that it looked like the antibiotics were working...Millie should be all better in a couple weeks.  A month later, Millie was hardly using her foot. Bottom line - Millie had cancer in her foot during 6 visits over the course of 6 months.  They never sought a second opinion, and they never gave us a referral.  That's when we took her to a new vet (see above).  This is an appointment only clinic; even so, we still had to wait at least 30-40 minutes each vist.  I do not recommend.

Blackford Veterinary Surgery Referral - 1505 Bob Kirby Road Knoxville, TN 37931 - http://www.blac.....rgery.com/ - I can't say enough good about Dr. Blackford.  As I'm writing this, Millie is at Blackford's for her leg amputation.  Up to this point, I have been nothing short of impressed with Dr. Blackford and her staff.  She operates on appointments, and everytime we've shown up we've been greeted at the door and taken back to our consult room.  On one occasion I had to wait for 10 minutes to see the doctor (which is great in my book).  It seems to me that she takes a very personal interest in your pet, which makes me feel good.  They also have been terriffic about communication.  Everytime I've been waiting for lab results or a diagnosis, I always hear back from them (usually Dr. Blackford herself) long before I expect a call.  She also gave her after hours cell phone number so that my wife could call her with questions/concerns.  Also, she must have actually read my initial paperwork because when she saw that I was in the Military, she volunteered a substantial military discount on all the work she did to include consultations, needle asprits, bone biopsies, and her amputation. Bottom line - If you are anywhere close to W. Knoxville, and your pet is going to need surgery, please consider Blackford referral.  I Highly Recommend.
