Thanks for having this talk! I hope I am able to dial in.

A couple questions that come to mind:

1. Any suggestions on meeting new dogs? My tri-guy is aware he is at risk of getting knocked over, so is much more vocal than perhaps he needs to be. We avoid any meetings with unknown dogs, but sometimes it would be nice to do slow introductions to friends dogs etc, and have it be more smooth.

2. Anything special to consider when a tripawd ages? My guy is now fully in senior status. We do a lot to accomodate him: meds, harness, massage smile He likes the salmon oil and massage the best.

Here is one that is more about trying to correct an undesired behavior-

My problem is with my quad pug Obie- licking!  Licks himself, rug, blanket, and sometimes just the air, it can go on for up to an hour if not interrupted.  We have checked for allergies and skin problems but that does not seem to be the problem.  I believe this behavior is due to the neglect in his past. My vet has diagnosed him with OCD (there are a couple other behaviors- but the licking drives me crazy). He does not always do it in stressful times- he does it when things are quiet and calm like when we are sitting on the couch in the evenings- or at night when we go to bed.

I have seen several members post about their new tripawds starting this behaviour- maybe it is due to stress?

My question is what is the best way to deal with this?  Should you interrupt it,  try distractions, do more exercise? (I have tried all of those with limited success).  Maybe in a new tripawd the behavior will cease as they recover?

Aw, I'd love to hear this!  But I'll be at a conference all day Saturday...any chance of it being recorded?  I'd really like to get some tips for Katy, she loves people but simply HATES other dogs!  I love taking her places, she enjoys going out in public, but it's really hard when we're someplace like an aisle in Petco and there's another dog right there, her hackles go up and she starts barking and growling, it's just awful.  Waiting room at the vet, same way, I have to keep her over in the corner.  Help, please?

I'm Crystal, but you can call me Katymom.  :)  I'm Triproud of my Tripawd!

Katy Sue Sarcopski – born approx 2/03, found "the lump" 9/7/11, suspected soft tissue sarcoma (most likely liposarcoma) 10/11, became a Tripawd 11/1/11, official diagnosis of infiltrating lipoma 11/23/11
