Lexie has been doing well so far, all things considered (she had her surgery on Weds. April 9). We baby-gated both sets of stairs and have kept her in our living room/kitchen area.

Since she has always hated being picked up -- and feels the same way now -- we did a modified ramp from the front steps into the yard, and we've just been walking her down and up gently to let her into the yard to do her business. She's also been on a few very short walks, and does a pretty hop.

Earlier today we were going up and downstairs ourselves and realized we had a baby-gate lapse. Before we knew it we heard her coming down the stairs(!)...scared the dickens out of us. Fortunately the stairs have Berber carpet so she didn't slip. We looked at her stitches and staples and they seemed to be okay initially.

(Btw, she didn't like going down that set of stairs before the tumor showed up on her leg, and she definitely didn't when it turned into full-blown soft tissue sarcoma.)

So, it's been a couple hours and there seems to be some very slight bleeding around the stitches/staples. I'm going to try to post a pic but my phone is being finicky so thought I'd ask here for now. I searched the forums for pulled staples/stitches and didn't see any photos...just trying to get a sense of whether I need to worry. She seems to be acting pretty normal, although she's been a bit more tired than usual since it happened.

What do y'all think? Has anyone else's tripawd had a similar accidental stair encounter so soon post op?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice.

(Tags for future search reference: stairs after surgery, pulled staples, pulled stitches, slight bleeding around staples, slight bleeding around stitches, stairs too soon post op, stairs too soon after surgery)

YAAAAAAY LESIE!!

OOPs! WAIT!! I mean, "NAUGHTY GIRL LEXIE!" That's incredible! And especially since she didn't like going down those stairs before!! Still a little high on meds maybe, but clearly showing you how bad that pain ws BEFORE!

Others may chime in but I don't think a tiny bit of bleeding would NOT indicate too much of a problem right nwo. Jist kee an eye n it and if it bleeds alot, then yo may want to get it checked. Some leaksge is "normal" sometimes

Keep watching...a seroma may develop fromover doing it While they certainly dn't recommend it, many, many dogs sneakin some up and down stair climbing their first few days home...and beyond.

Realy glad to hear that Lexie is feeling so good!! Quite often there is a littlle bit of a "crash" period around day three lr four as al hospital meds are out of their system.

Hugs toyoj andyour sweet girl! Yo are such a good advocate for Lexie!!!

Great example of "being more dog" from our pack as they admire our neighbor's cherry tree and take in a lovely spring morning.

Always appreciate the sights, sounds and smells around you.

Aww what a gorgeous pic!

Sorry I just caught up with things now, was offline most of yesterday. How is she doing?

In the future you can scroll through our Photo Gallery sections if you're looking for photos too, especially the Procedure pics.

Yes, pulled stitches are common, stuff like this happens. What does the incision look like now? Hope it's all OK.

Rear amp dogs take stairs much better than front amp, but I would definitely NOT allow any just amp'ed dog on stairs.

They are still learning balance and walking.  A tumble down the steps is something that you can completely avoid so why risk it?

Give them at the very least 2 weeks to adjust and get over the surgery.
