One of the bloggers mentioned they run this test every 4 months to detect met in lungs,, etc..  Wondering if anyone here is also using this test?  how often? anything more sophisticated than this?   I see one of my onco vets on Monday and will ask for this/ about this.etc..

Not sure which blog you're referring to but here is a link to that particular test:

A CT scan is the most accurate way to check for metastasis as far as I understand. Most people have x-rays done, but they're not as accurate as a CT. I'm guessing the blogger chose that particular test because it was more cost effective to do on a regular basis.

My oncov Vet. that runs the vaccine trial called me this morning. I asked her about this blood test canine panel and she said it is not for osteosarcoma. . As well, I asked her how often to x-ray CT etc.? She said that because ct  requires anesthesia that if you want to be super aware, you can do chest x rays every eight weeks.   I will ask my onco rad vet  about both of these issues as  he will be monitoring Simon as primary.

Hi Luke and Simon 🐾

Eurydice’s oncologist in England recommended a CT scan 6 months after amputation.

Apparently this is about the time for lung mets to show if your dog is playing textbook style, as sadly my girl was.

CT is, indeed, the most accurate test, it shows mets which measure mm opposed to X-ray which is only able to pick up mets when they are much bigger.

Eurydice started doxorubicin when the 6 month CT showed 3 or 4 mets measuring a couple of mm each and then we repeated the CT scan before the 4th round of doxorubicin to check the evolution of mets in detail.

If you want to know exactly what is going on, CT is the test, otherwise you can have more regular X-rays with the knowledge they will only pick up mets when they become big enough to be spotted.

Hugs and cuddles 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

I just spoke with VDI labs about the tk canine cancer panel  .They said this test is not used or not going to perform well for bone cancers.  .  Works better when a tumor will leech into the blood stream,, etc,,
