Hi Tripawds,

We have a very sad and confused Tripawd family right now. I took Theo to the Oncologist this morning, things were going along smoothly until in a very dramatic fashion, the vet tech bursts into the room and hands the Doctor an update from the lab where Theo's bone was biopsied. After a lot of head scratches and "Hmmms". The Oncologist tells us that Theo does not have osteosarcoma, and that the FNA results must've been wrong.

The results showed instead metastatic bone cancer, meaning there's a primary tumor somewhere else in his body. Theo has had about 6 body x-rays in the last 2 months, and doctors saw nothing. So now he's staying at the Onco to get an ultrasound around 3pm.

We are so upset today, we've done everything right for our boy and yet have gotten one misdiagnosis after another.

I'll start searching the forums, but has anyone else dealt with metastatic bone cancer, and if so where was the primary tumor, and how did you treat.

Thanks as always,
Snaggle Family

I'm so sorry that you still have no definitive answer on what is going on with Theo.  I just don't know what to say...way-confused

Fingers crossed the vet is able to determine what is going on through the ultrasound.  I personally did not deal with cancer with Leland so I'm not much help in giving you a starting place to start looking at metastatic bone cancer.

I just wanted to let you know that I'll be keeping Theo in my thoughts as he going through the procedure this afternoon.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I, too, know first-hand how hard it is to deal w/mis-diagnosis's. My Shelby, didn't have OSA but when she broke her leg, they thought for sure that she did. We put her through many tests, X-rays and they were all inconclusive so we fixed her leg only to find the culprit (evil cancer) in her spleen three months later. She was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma and her spleen was removed and we started treatment. A few months later, she refused to use that fixed leg so we had to remove it and only then, after TWO biopsies, did it come back positive for strains of hemangiosarcoma.

I know this isn't that helpful since you are possibly dealing with another cancer but I feel your frustration... but hopefully you can take some comfort in knowing that Theo is pain-free now that they removed his bum leg.

Good luck and we'll be keeping you in our thoughts all day!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

This is craaaaaazy! Just crazy!

Perhaps you can post this under Ask A Vet thread also.

I went back and looked at all yiur ppsts and ther was c onfusion on the vet's lart from the get go. The leg was painful and removing it was the best option.

I can't remember, when one vet suggested the "hope" that it was an infection, did you lroceed with a course of antibiotics at that time???

Ya know, Theo's tests are all coming back clear...until...and IF something shows up otherwise...Theo doesn't have the piece of crap disease!!! There certainly could have been an error in the biopsy. I'm thinking more and more there's a screw up in Theo's favor!!!

Stay strong!! Put the most positive empowering thoughts in your head that you can!!!

We are all here with you!

Huge hugs!!!
