Laughing  Hi all.  Just wanted to give you an update on Tanner.  His amputation was Tuesday and he is not missing a beat.  He is somewhat hesitant to sit or lay but he is quick on his 3 legs.  The surgical site looks like it is very sore; it is very bruised but I know that is to be expected.  I know we made the right decision to amputate because now he can enjoy his remaining time pain free.  I am bracing for the worst and at the same time trying to enjoy him as well.  Very difficult balance to maintain as Im sure alot of you can understand.  The fact that he is only two and a half years old means even less time with him (Im told).  Anyone else here experience this disease with a young dog?  More updates to follow; thanks to the continued support.

Hi, Amy and Tanner-

Glad to hear that he is getting around so well.  I hope that he continues to feel better every day.  Also, thanks for all of your questions last week.  Blackjack just had his amputation today and I felt much better about it after reading all the responses to your questions-more prepared, at least.  Other folks have been talking about clinical trials-are you in an area that may be running some?  Maybe there are some out there for younger dogs affected with OSA.  Give Tanner a scratch for Blackjack and me and we'll stay tuned for more updates on him.  Hang in there!

Dear Amy,

So glad to hear Tanner is home and is recovering so well.  Yes, we do know what you mean when you say that you are bracing yourself for the worst but still trying to enjoy him.  Cancer is such a horrible, grueling, painful and fear inducing disease.  It is such a test of positive emotional endurance.  It has been so difficult to try to accept what is going on with Jake but still fight at the same time.  I feel like I have prayed more in the past month than I have in my whole life!  It has been incredibly stressful but at the same time I have gained so much strength and perspective from this whole experience so far.  As usual, I feel like Jake is teaching me how to be a better human...  our furry kids have a funny way of doing that.

Hi Amy,

Everyday is a gift... I'm happy Tanner is home with you and learning to adjust. Keep a good vibe, he will feed off you energy. I always like to stress diet and supplements to improve his immune system. I would really recommend a holistic vet if your open to the idea.
Don't let fear consume your thoughts, because it can be a downward spiral of negative thinking. Keep the faith and live for today...no one, including ourselves is guaranteed tomorrow. Worrying about what is out of our control serves no purpose.
