Go go Georgia! You are a rock star and role model for how to handle getting back to the new normal.
She’s doing better than me. I’m definitely still feeling very up and down.
Of course you are! Anyone who goes through this grieves. We carry those emotions and feelings, not our animals. You will work through them once she keeps showing you how she can overcome any obstacles that come her way. It takes time for us, not for them. And you can vent as much as you'd like here, we get it.
I’m not sure why her surgeon said to hold off on the rimadyl, she was on meloxicam prior to surgery but she said she prefers rimadyl.
Oh OK. Probably to do a "washout phase" so there's no conflict of medications perhaps. I'm no vet but better safe than sorry.

Yes, "normal" o us, but to the outside world they see us as stone cold nuts! To them its jist not "normal" to celebrate first and we applaud it when they get back up on the sofa!
These feelings will dissipate as you get further and further away from recovery. Right now the incision and shaved fur keep reminding you of all the stress it took to get here.
Continue to follow her lead and live in the now and celebrate each blissful moment you share with her. She's just so happy to start to be her sweet self again!!
.Tripawds are so cute and auch wise teachers for us hoomans!

Dear Georgias Mom
Oh yes.. your feelings and thoughts are so completely normal.. and who cares what anyone else thinks..!!! Honestly, people that don't understand are not worth your time.
So happy to hear your girl is begging for your dinner.. lol.. I am sure you fixed a little extra for her. !!
Good to hear she is enjoying getting outside for her pp and . Makes any pup mom happy things are working just fine.
I know it's hard to see her now.. with her wound. She is just happy to be with you and doesn't even give it a second thought.!!
Get some rest and have another good day with your girl tomorrow.!!
Love and light. Jeane and Arbi. ❤️❤️🐾❤️❤️
One thing she's doing that's concerning to me is while she has gone to the bathroom it's difficult to get her to go. She's had some stool incontinence. She doesn't seem to know she has to go until it starts to come out. She's also not wanting to pee. She's only gone once since she got home and that was yesterday afternoon. I have a call into my vet to discuss these things just wondering if anyone else has had these issues.
Sweet Georgia still has some strong Hospital meds in her, so it's not unusual to not really be aware of when she needs to poop or not. But the good news is she's already had a poop which most dogs take several days to do! Now as far as the Pee that is something you want to keep an eye on and keep your vet in the loop on tha.
again though it's not unusual to be a little out of sorts with the potty issues the first couple of days. It did sound like she has peed once since she has gotten home, is that right? So that's good. Another thought, wait until she shows signs that she needs to go out rather than trying to take her out intermittently. You already may be doing that, but just to reiterate it.
Try and keep her fluid intake pretty steady. Flavor the water with chicken broth to make sure she drinks.
So looks like we get to celebrate congratulations on the Itt diesnt matter how the bones out, all is good. this early on!

She’s drinking a lot of water. The vet thinks it’s probably urinary retention from the Tramadol as well as some anxiety about positioning herself. We’re going to decrease the tramadol and see if that helps. The gabapentin works better anyway so hopefully this will do the trick. Thankfully as a nurse myself post op with dogs is similar to humans 🙏🙏
Georgia's got a personal real life nurse? Lucky girl! Yep, you totally understand this process.
Sometimes fecal incontinence can happen when there is pain on the low back/spinal area. It happened to our Wyatt. Has she urinated yet?
Hopefully the adjusted meds will help, it sounds like a reasonable plan. I didn't know Tramadol could do that. But you're right, Gabapentin works better anyways. Hopefully that will do the trick.

She has not peed yet since yesterday about this time, and she's drinking plenty of fluids that definitely need to come out. She's panting quite a bit as well which i attribute to pain and maybe having to pee? Today we initiated the Rimadyl so i was hoping we'd see some more progress, although i know she's doing very well to begin with. My vet didn't seem too concerned with not peeing, since her surgery wasn't anywhere near her kidneys or bladder. She had been on Tramadol prior to surgery but it was just 1 tablet twice a day. She's been taking one every 4 hours up until now, now we're going to try every 8 hours to see if that helps with the urine retention. Not really sure what to do, i can imagine she's uncomfortable with a full bladder. She did poop this morning and squatted to go so i would've thought she would've gone then 🙁
Ok so Sally's pro tip that was just given to someone else (I'm spacing on who!) is to have another dog come over and pee in the same yard. Would that be possible?
Here's a video to express her bladder manually. Use care, and check with your vet, because there is a small risk you can rupture it:

WOW! That's awesome. Many dogs get too zonked on Traz to do their business. Way to go!
