OH!!  I'm so happy we have semi-happy news!   It's getting better!  I'm so glad!

Now Tana here's what I'd do about the house smells...Go buy a couple of kegs of beers and invite all your beer drinking buddies over!  Encourage them to bring a lot of cigarettes!   Let them drink beer (and spill it) and smoke cigarettes!  After your beer blast party - you won't smell poo anymore and neither will anyone else.  Beer and cigarettes will kill the smell for sure!

But if you want to go the vinegar and baking soda route - FINE.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that things are looking up!  I was so worried about Sophie.  We'll continue to keep all fingers and paws and toes and even eyes crossed that Sophie continues to improve and that you get some good sleep tonight.  And count us in for the beer blast!  I'm happy to spill some to help cover up the smell of poop... anything for a tripawds friend!winker  Awesome directions, I might add...

Glad to hear that Sophie's doing better.  That must be a relief! Hope your vet appt goes well.  Love the beer bash party too! Sounds like it could be a lot of fun.  Bet you could use a good chug after all that you've been through, heck I think we all could use a good chug after reading what you've been through laughing  Keeping our paws crossed!

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

I almost hate to post this - because I just know it will jinx things .....

We've had a good night and a good day ! sssshhhhh .... so far - no vomiting and no diarrhea (at least, not in the house). The only thing to hit the carpet that shouldn't have was a gross cat hairball (I guess my cats are feeling left out ... I really don't need their participation).

Sophie has developed a liking for cooked chicken with ginger ... I'm going to be following in Diane's footsteps and running to the grocery store every other day to pick up those cooked chickens ! I'm not complaining .... Sophie is sort of snubbing the rice part of the mixture - and submarining for the chicken. That's ok with me. big-grin At least she's eating - and she seems to be holding it down.

The oncologist said to discontinue the Cerenia today if Sophie had stopped throwing up. I sure hope we continue on THIS path for awhile....

Thanks everyone !

Hmmmm Tana...  I can just imagine the odor in your home... diarrhea... Hmmmm... (yuck!) Thank god you have a carpet cleaner!!!

Are you using the enzyme stuff for all the spots before you use the machine? That helps, for sure... Also, I always have a supply of nice insence that I use in the house whenever I have any 'accidents'... seems to help alot!

Always check with your vet first, but for my doggy's diarrheas... I'd always use some loperamide (immodium), kaolin/pectin solution (great stuff), benebac (to replace the normal flora bacteria that's messed up after all the diarrhea treatments)... boiled hamberger (or chicken) with rice... and lots and lots of carpet cleaning stuff!!! We got rid of most of our carpets a few years ago... makes cleaning so much easier! But of course, our animals always seem to go and vomit and poop in the few carpeted areas that are left. I think they do that on purpose, eh?!!

I hope that Sophie continues to feel better!!!

Hey Marguerite  - what enzyme stuff? I have some incense I was burning - "Ocean Breeze" - but it just smelled like burning poop so I put it away. What do you have? I have Febreeze plug-ins, Febreeze Pet Odor Removal Spray, carpet cleaning solution smell, of course - and now some bowls of vinegar strategically placed - hiding those from the cats is a challenge !! All in all - it smells pretty bad in here - my son's room is the worst.

I did a walk-about in the back yard tonite - and found little piles of tarry black poop - so I gather we're not done with that - but at least she's making it outside. I'm taking that as (at least temporary) victory. The vet gave us some o that Flora... stuff to put on her food - probiotics - she eats that ok. Tonite I gave her an Imodium tablet.

I know we need to watch her weight - but, geez - I bet she's lost at least 10 or 15 pounds in the last week. I can almost span her waist with my hands. That's way too thin for a golden retriever.

Anyway - you guys are the best. Thank you so much for your advice and your thoughts. We're getting through this.

Great news!
Ok, we don't want to jinx it either. Promise not to step on any cracks, and we'll keep our paws crossed for continued eating. Yeay Sophie!

Excellent news, Tana!

When Comet had that bad bout after Christmas they gave her Fortiflora sprinkles too.  I think it helps.

I'm so happy for you! That has to be a big relief!

Tana,

Good to hear Sophie is improving.

I think now we need to add a section in the Tripawds gear blog for carpet cleaning machines!  You could post the one you use and say "recommend by Sophie's mom"  big-grin

HA, Karen - you know - there may be something to that. There's enough of us who need/use carpet cleaners and machines - we could probably affect the value of stocks if the companies are publicly traded ! yeah, yeah .... that's the ticket .... !

btw - I recommend Bissell. Although, with a caveat that it does leave "crop circle like markings" in the carpet which are, themselves, difficult to remove - and the cleaner has not totally (ha !) eliminated the smell as it claims to be able to do.

pros: sets up easily - works on it's own - reasonably lightweight

cons: uses a lot of cleaner - therefore, relatively expensive to run - really only good for "spots".

wink

Do you have the Bissell Pet SpotBot?  I hate the circles it leaves!  I usually find myself bypassing my SpotBot and dragging out the "big machine", instead.

I, also, find Bissell's Pet Carpet Cleaner does not fully remove smells, nor all the stain color; the Bissell OxyGen pre-treat stuff usually helps, though.

Amputation on 11/10/09, due to Histiocytic Sarcoma in left elbow. Angel Harley earned his wings on 06/24/10.
