Pinpointing when it happens is so great! It will be a good thing to be able to talk to the vet about! It seems like it happens when she is excited? I wonder if that does have something to do with her iron since blood pressure going up and so does heart rate when we are excited? Hoping those earthquakes quit! Stay adorable Shelby!

Cody and family

Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.

Howdy, Shelby's big sister Penny started having episodes about 2 years ago. This is what we were told to do.

Keep a written diary of what she was doing, when did it occur, day, date and time, how long did it last, and how she was for up to 24 hours after the episode.

The reason for doing this is if you go to vet for help, you don't have to remember what happened.

Take care, the chauffeurway-cool

Aww thank you for sharing Penny's experience, this is very helpful! Guess the PP forgot her password?

It's been about 4 days since Shelby's last episode which I now think was 'fainting' and she's been basically normal great. I did notice some white spots on her upper lip/gums Sunday when I opened her mouth post-episode but didn't think anything much of it. I did mention it to her vet when they called me Monday to check on her like they always do and they seemed OK with it - as long as it wasn't bugging her and it wasn't red spots or bumps. But they also said that Shelby has aggressive cancer and anemia and they are pretty much doing all they can for her at this point. (sigh).

So I was home sick today with a migraine and I snapped a photo of the inside of her gums. Has anyone seen this before? I am assuming it has to do w/her anemia since overall she seems fine. She was a little off last night but so was I and I think when I don't feel good, and she can't fix it, she flips out now and shakes and goes to the bathroom. Which only makes me more anxious. I also think her iron pills make her constipated so while she is going poop just fine, she feels like she has to go MORE than not. Or she just had an off day. She was a perfect love most of today while I was home with her - 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Hi Alison, I can't really tell what it looks like on Shelby's lip, but I believe that as long as Shelby has good pink color generally, don't worry too much. You know the experience I have already had with both my Maggie and Polly, so try not to worry, and just keep spoiling Princess Shelby and enjoy each day. We all know what a great little fighter she is, and I have no doubt, she will kick this evil cancer as long as she can.

Do you want to know how neurotic I've become because of this crappy cancer? I keep checking my 1 year old pup, Pearl, Polly's little sister, for bumps and lumps on her legs....how sad and pathetic is that? I think my husband believes I have half lost my mind.......

Thanks for reading my blog story also.....and I agree with everything you posted to me.

Much love and hugs to you and sweet Shelby....

P.S......BTW, we share the migraine thing too....

Thank you Bonnie!!!! We are kindred spirits! 🙂

Shelby's gums have never been 'pink', like a normal dog (is anything normal about Shelby, really?). She's always had purple/dark gums and a dark tongue - now it just looks bland for lack of a better word so I assume it's her anemia. But she is acting fine so as my mom would say, I need to quit borrowing trouble and let it be. One of my neighbors who hasn't seen Shelby up close in a couple months since we never see each other saw her today and said he would have NO clue this dog is fighting cancer. She looks great - healthy, sparkle in her eyes, full belly (I assume he wasn't calling her fat). But she isn't losing weight which is great news.

And Bonnie - I am the same way w/other people's dogs, if they limp, jump, move funny ... I assume eventually that will taper off but I get it. Totally!

Hugs and love to you too!!!! Thank you for supporting us, always!

Ty also has one of those white spots. His is on his owner lip. It may have always been there and now I just look for stuff. His gums are not real red either. He has good capillary refil though when pressing on them. It is so hard not to worry, but Shelby is a little fighter. Isn't it funny how they relate if we are ill, sad etc. Shelby looks like she has plenty of sparkle. I also now check my other 2 dogs for lumps. My one dog coughed last night and I got scared. I think he had a piece of food kind of stuck. Ou are both in my thoughts and prayers. Hope your headache is better. Lori and Ty

Alison and SHELBYSTRONG!!

Hope that ole' headache has gone away! I no this doesn't apply to migraines, bt if you ever have a "regular" headache, drink lots of water! I really have found that a good hardy ntake of water will lessen it within an hour.

As far as Shelby's "spots", it realy does just look like normal pigmentation changes as dogs "mature". Kind of like "sun spots" and "old age spots on humans. Anyway, I've noticed pigmentatin chamges in some of my dogs as they age.

Your neighbor realy validated how well Shelby is doing! Love the feedback she gave you...and so true!

She's such a love! Give her a snuggle for us tonight, okay?

Hope you're feeling better today. Migraines are the worst!

Like Sally I do think that looks like senior dog pigmentation change. I would keep an eye on it and show your vet next time you're there. Glad to hear she's doing so well this week. Yay :)
