Valentina is still doing quite Wonderful!! However she did develop a skin infection on her front remaining paw. Her paw swelled up again and the swelling looked just like last time it was swollen but this time it was more red on the underside of her foot and she began chewing at it. I just called the vet and he prescribed Gentocin. This is a topical spray that worked like magic before. This time it has really worked fast also. Her foot is almost back to normal. The swelling is gone and only a little of the irritation underneath is left. This time I had to rig up something to keep her from chewing at it. She can become obsessed with chewing sometimes. It's kind of funny but I cut off the bottom of one of the legs of my daughter's flared jeans and I attached it loosely to her leg with some vet wrap and a little tape. I let the material go just a little past her paw so she couldn't get to the area. The flared style of the jeans allowed for air to circulate inside. When it was time to go out I just rolled up the pant leg and when we came back in and I couldn't watch her I just rolled it down. I had some talks with her about not trying to get it off or licking at the fabric. She is such a good Dog! She never tried to get it off or messed with it and it worked like a charm. After church today I took it off and left it off all day. I will put it back on before I go to bed to make sure that she doesn't mess with it still. It's almost gone but I don't want to take any chances. I have had to rig many things over the years with trial and error but many times my makeshift problem solvers work lol. Also I just did put her back on Rimadyl. The doctor had previously said that I could take her off of it because she was doing so well but after a short time I realized that I think she still needs it. It must be very straining to hold up her huge body on that one front leg. She will probably have to stay on it I am guessing. Today I tried to take many more pictures of her but she is not very cooperative with that. She won't ever stay still!! She played with her toy in the back yard and we enjoyed the wonderful weather we had today.smile

I don't know if she would wear a bootie or if she would chew it off.  Tazzie kept getting sores on her remaining front foot so I finally bought her a Ruffwear bootie (size XL).  I bought the kind with the heavy bottom tread and put a sock on underneath.  She wore it all day and I took it off at night.  If she ever got a sore I would soak her foot in epsom salts and then I used Gold Bond powder between her toes (apply after the foot has dried).

My tripawd Maggie, has an issue between two of her toes on her remaining rear foot as well.  I blamed it on the wet summer(and being a tripawd) we've had as she hasn't had this issue before.  Do you see this issue alot with Tripawds, Pam?  It's like a spot between her two outer toes that the hair has rubbed off and it sorta had a water blister there once too although that is gone.  I first noticed an issue when Maggie would continually lick that foot…she doesn't do that now…I used a homeopathic cream on it and did soak it some.  It looks better the drier it stays outside!  I have used a bootie on her a bit when she was chewing at it.

Comet developed a steril cyst between her toes about this time last year.  After all the years of hopping on her front leg, she never had a problem until she was 12 years old.   Hers would get as big as a large grape and burst.  It was usually a little blood with mostly fluid. The vet said it wasn't anything to worry about.  If she walked a lot, it grew and then would burst.  But if she wasn't active, it would grow and then go back down.
