If this Christmas card from bingo doesn't get you in a Christmas spirit, nothing will! ☃️⛄🎁🎄☺   I can almost hear Venga singing Jingle Bells while he was getting his picture taken!😄😄 . If I knew how to record Jingle Bells in the background I would do it.

Lara said he had his first spa day since his surgery. He certainly cleaned himself up very nicely for this delightful photo.😎

Hello Everyone!

Thank you Sally for posting Venga's Christmas photo! It was such a relief to finally get him to the spa! With the all the surgery's prior to amputation, it was impossible to get him groomed, now he is looking spiffy and clean again 🙂

Venga continues to do really well!! He is pretty well back to his regular furry fun self again. We did get consultation with a rehabilitation specialist, and they recommended a few key exercises to keep his spine mobility agile and to give relief to that front leg that is bearing all the weight now.

One exercise involves a side stretch, using a treat to guide his nose toward each side of his hind and back toes.

The second exercise involves using a treat to guide him into a figure eight motion between our legs, again to encourage spine flection - it seems that this one helps with balance as well!

We also have a massage technique to release tension along his entire spine as well as for his front bearing leg.

We have been advised to give him supplements, a fish oil for overall health as well as a supplement for joint health.

My only concern is that when he is walking around the house, he hobbles. I wonder whether this is normal for a Tripawd? When he is outside and walking/running, his gait is very smooth, and you can hardly tell that he has three legs! But when in the house and walking around slowly, there is a distinct hobble/limp. I would appreciate feedback on that, to ease my worry 🙂

He has no problem going up the stairs, however, we have not given him the chance to go down the stairs on his own - that defiantly seems risky, and we guide him using the ruff wear harness , and that works great. Thanks so much for the recommendation 🙂

Thank you again for your support. I am so grateful and happy to see Venga doing so well.

Warmly,

Lara, Cameron and Venga 🙂

Spectacular update!!!  Venga really is mastering  the art of three seemingly  effortlessly. 👍

Thank you so much for going into the detail of the rehabilitation he is doing at home. Very helpful.

when he is walking around the house, he hobbles. I wonder whether this is normal for a Tripawd? When he is outside and walking/running, his gait is very smooth, and you can hardly tell that he has three legs!

When he is out walking his gait as faster  and the momentum  is what gives him balance and a more fluid gait.  When inside he doesn have  he "speed advantage ".    Guess you do have  non slip scatter  rugs for traction   if you  have hardwoods, right?

Take a video and show to the Rehab  Specialist.   Continuing  with the types of exercises you are doing shoul help, but there will be a difference in their gait  in smaller confined areas.  At least that's  my FWIW

You are doing an excellent job of doing  whatever it takes to help Venga be a mfit and  happy tripawd.  Gove yourself a pat on the back!.

Anytime you want more pictures posted, don't  hesitate to send them to me.  He is such a handsome fella ' and we ,ove seeing photos of handsome fellas!

Hugs

Lara, you are doing such a good job with him and it shows. When you say hobble, can you shoot a video so we can see it? Upload to YouTube and share the video URL here so we can check it out. If you have slippery floors, that could be the reason.

Hello Everyone,

It has been awhile since I posted. I see in my last post, I had questions about Venga's 'hobble' when walking around the house. I realize now that his gait is slightly different navigating three legs and I have adjusted to that and have less worry about it. He does walk differently when the surface doesn't have traction , we are doing our best to cover as much surface as possible to make thing easier for him. We do side stretch exercises daily for him, and give him a supplement to support joint health as he ages.

Today is special day - 3 months since Venga's recovery and he is doing AMAZING!!!

Just the other day, Venga and I were out for a walk on the trail, he picked up a scent from far far away and decided he needed to follow it. The scent took him way off into the distance where I could not see him anymore. I found myself worried for his safety and well-being, at the same time, trusting him in his body and spirit to do his doggy thing. He emerged about 10 minutes later, very excited and proud to have retrieved a long bone from some animal that perished in the wilds! Venga has no problems with chasing, I also witnessed him barrel ahead full tilt toward a squirrel - Squirrel patrol is serious business 😉

This little adventure settled my mind and heart into a knowing that he is absolutely fine! This is Venga, doing his hunting and retrieving thing. Having three legs is no barrier at all to him. He continues to inspire us and teach us with his doggy wisdom, love and resilience!
We want to thank you for your prayers, support and love. We could not have gotten through this transition without this community ♥️

HAPPY. THREE. MONTH. AMPUVERSARY VENGA👏

Well done sweet boy👍  Love how you celebrated by finding yourself a prized bone on your adventure, only to top it off by  patrolling those squirrels!!!

Venga is  an example of why we do what we do!!!  You and Cameron have done an extraordinary  job helping Venga be all he can be, yet monitoring  him in a way that keeps him safe.

Thank you both so much! Thank you Sally for posting the photo of Venga 🙂

We are very proud and in love with our beloved Venga. Our neighbours are in awe at how incredible he is doing. They were reluctant and scared when we were making the decision to amputate, and today, they are beside themselves with how well he is doing, and commending us for the choice we made for him - it has been so validating to hear the words 'you made the right the decision' come from people who were such big skeptics!

I would love to help spread the word about Tripawds and see that there is a Tripawd day approaching in March. Please let me know how I might help? I thought I could encourage or educate our local pet hospital and shelters by offering this resource to people who need it. Do you have recommendations on how to get started? I would love to give back to this community in some way, the support has been invaluable.

With love,

Grinning ear to ear reading this!  You did the research, you know your Venga best, you talked with the Specialists and you k ew Vengs would want thos chance.  Good for you for tuning out the negativity and following g your gut and inner voice👏

Wonderful that you want to help alread the word on Tri-day, or any day for that matter.  Jerry can fill you in more, but we do have some brochures  you can pass out to your Bet's office, shelters, etc.

Awww Lara! You and Venga are incredible ambassadors! People who know him will never forget how they were skeptical at first and will go on to tell others who find themselves in the same situation.

Thanks for asking about spreading the word! Have you seen today's blog?

We also have free outreach brochures just for the asking!
