Alright, paws crossed for good labs tomorrow!

I'm so glad the Core Cooler is working well. We sure love that thing. And yep I agree, that heat and humidity takes a toll on all of us. Take it slow and easy, it's still summer out there!

Just back from the vet and now have to wait for the Dr to call with her analysis of the results.  I have the results, but definitely not qualified to read them.  That being said, I compared them with the results from the week after his first chemo and it's about the same so I'm not feeling great right now...although Chance is doing well, but he was doing well the first week after the first chemo.

Last time he started on the antibiotics after his ER trip.  This time we start antibiotics (Enrofloxacin) 3 days following the 2nd round of chemo with the plan for antibiotics for 7 days (ends tomorrow).  I'm wondering if he should continue on the antibiotics for a while longer given last time he started getting worse around day 11 post-chemo.  His next CBC is next Tuesday.

It's going to be a long day until the Dr calls...maybe a long weekend as well just watching him all the time, watching for any signs that he's "tanking" again. icon_cry

Ok breathe and stay pawsitive. Has the doc called yet? These are all great questions to discuss with them.

And remember, what we give we get. So watch for signs of tanking and you will see them, even if that isn't the case. I know it's a fine line between being vigilant and jumping to conclusions, but you can master it, I know it! Stay strong.

Results are in for the CBC...they are about the same as after the 1st CBC following his 1st chemo...drop in white blood cells and platelets.  Although they are not super low and normally would be of not major concern, given his 2nd week post chemo effects, I am very concerned.  So dr is extending his time on the antibiotics (today was initially his last day) for another week.  That takes us past the 2nd CBC on Monday.  He's doing fine, eating (eggs and bacon of course!), peeing/pooping, wants to play and go for walks, so I'm keeping a pawsitive attitude but keeping vigilant for any signs.  I'm sure I'll be checking his temp a few times this weekend, just to be sure since last time it caught me off guard.

Keeping in mind that he feeds off my emotions, we'll continue walking, playing and enjoying each day! smiley4

Aww grrr so sorry! I can't blame you for being concerned. I think that's better though than being "worried" and it's a kind of pawsitivity that will help you to manage the situation IF anything comes up. I'm so glad that he's eating and is spunky as usual, this is really great news so let's run with that and celebrate Chance once again!

Stay strong and keep us posted.

Good for you for jumping kn thos eight away.  Yeah, his first bit of lack of appetite  for his regular food may not have alarmed many, but obviously a heightened  awareness on your part because of the past was a good thing!

So glad that he is showing you he feels okay and is being his happy self😎

And good for you for show him uoir"hapoy self" too!  👍

Quick update on my boy Chance.

On Tuesday we had our 2nd CBC post round 2 of chemo.  Based on his energy, eating, and overall great attitude, I expected an increase in his WBC and platelets this time around....I was wrong!  Yet again, they both dropped  (wbc dropped from 4.27 to 2.17; neu dropped from 2.3 to 0.42) but unlike last time, he doesn't seem to be showing any of the really bad signs like last time.  He definitely still gets tired on our walks, but that's about it.  So the oncologist wants to continue him on his antibiotics another week.  He's currently scheduled for round 3 of chemo next week.  We'll just have to see how his blood work is next week.

He's been eating his normal food for about 5 days now and enjoying our walks and play time in the backyard so for now, I'm not going to worry (too much).  I'm excited to be getting his "new" strolling this weekend.  I found the Booyah stroller on FB marketplace for about $100 less and it looks like it hardly been used.  It'll be nice to not have to pull the wagon all over the neighborhood and having everyone say "oh, I thought you had a kid in there!".  I just tell them "I do...my kid!". LOL

Whew!  So glad Chance is feeling good!  I know the "clinical feedback" is obviously  very important, but how Chance feels outwardly  is a very important "feedback" too.

So the levels  dropped further from the last time, even with the antibiotics???  So no supportive  action is needed because he's doing so well outwardly, right??

Okay, we're  gonna' all send all sorts of pawsitive  energy for good bloodwork and, most importantly, for Chamce to continue  to feel better and better!!!  👍

Can't  wait to see the photos of Chance  and his new ride!!

Extra hugs

I think Chance is getting the hang of this chemo thing, that's pretty good news considering. I'm so glad he's not in a tough spot again and I can't wait to see him in the new wheels!

I don't know if this will make a difference or not,  but I'm gonna throw it out there.

In the veterinary field I had just the tiniest amount of exposure to cancer and those treatments,  so i am virtually useless there. In the human field when I was doing phlebotomy, i met lots of cancer patients that came in for labs before treatment.

There were patients that had to put off chemo because their values hadn't increased enough,  but they got the treatments a little later when their bodies were stronger and they could handle it.  As long as he's doing ok, not sick,  eating and drinking,  maybe the chemo is doing its job.

Call me crazy (hush, lol) but on a much more personal note,  I lost my best friend to cancer.  She was only 56... my next birthday.  She never got sick. Had all these treatments and nothing phased her.  She died.  Quickly.

When I see a body fighting,  I feel like the treatment is doing its job.  Whether it can succeed and do the whole job,  only the higher forces know. I think your Chance is fighting.

Fingers crossed his counts are higher next time.  Slow and steady,  and your quality time right now is still good ❤

Hugs❤❤❤

Thanks everyone!  Long weekend helping family with moving storage units so no posting this weekend.  Chance is doing well, even with the last CBC results.  I've been watching his temp (hovering at around 98.6 - 99.5) and he's continuing to eat/drink well.  He's still getting tired quickly on walks but again I think it's a combination of the chemo and the summer heat!  He got his first ride in his new stroller last night and again this morning.  I don't have a photo yet, but will post soon.  He's loving it...as is his buddy, my grand-nephew!

We're scheduled for round 3 tomorrow.  He'll get another CBC in the morning to see how the blood work looks.  I'm hopeful that his numbers are up, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see.  But in the meantime, he is doing great!

Jackie...I'm so sorry about your friend.  That's way too young...cancer does suck!!  I do think Chance is a fighter...has been since I found him!

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement.  Photos to follow!

Cannot wait to see photos!  Thrilled to hear Chance likes his new Chariot.   I think almost everyone  who jas ever gotten one says their dogs really do take to them quickly  and thorou enjoy their time outdoors.  They enjoy all the scents without  putting out any effort and can hop out and walk and pee on stuff and then hop by in without  tiring.

I am so glad to hear Chance is doing well!  So glad he's loving his new chariot too ❤

Keeping fingers crossed for an improvement with tomorrow's labs.

The humidity seems to be worse than the temps are here lately.  Bo is only 2 and he can only tolerate it in short increments, and he's not going through what Chance is.

Can't wait to see photos🥰

No chemo today...Chance's white blood cell count is still too low.  Discussion with the Dr today is options on chemo...continue with the carboplatin or switch to doxorubicin.  She feels that since his last chemo was at 20%, going any lower would be ineffective so possibly switching to the doxorubicin.  Of course another option is to stop the chemo and just let him be.  Of course he's one of those "a small percent of patients" that doesn't do well on the drugs.  It's definitely not his attitude or anything like that....he's happy and active, it's just his wbc and platelets aren't rebounding well after the chemo treatments.

He's got an appointment for next week so I have a week to think it over and decide what we want to do.  The dr said that dogs tend to have more side effects (i.e., vomiting and diarrhea) with the doxorubicin so I'll really have to think about that.  I don't want him to be miserable.

In the meantime....more walks with his stroller.  I'll try to get a photo or two tonight!
