Tuesday continued to be a really good day with Chance's bloodwork showing his wbc and platelet counts were back to the normal range!  Even better than the first week after chemo.  He's still slightly anemic but much better than last week.  The oncologist really thinks the neupogen helped.  Whether it was the neupogen, other antibiotics, or whatever, I'm just glad he's doing better.  I was a little surprised when he vomited just before we left the house for his Appt.  The Dr joked maybe he knew where he was going! icon_lol Not sure why he vomited but immediately after he ate a treat so it's not his appetite!  And Chance is happy that he no longer has to take the 2 antibiotics!

So we're scheduled for chemo#2 next week.  We'll do another blood test beforehand to make sure there's not change in his wbc and platelets.  If those are good, then we'll press with the chemo...at a 20% reduction.  We talked about 25% reduction but the dr felt that that was at the lowest part of the range for chemo and 20% would be good.  And just in case there's any side effects, he'll take some antibiotics for a few days afterwards.  I think this is the best option for now.  If anything close to this happens after chemo#2 then we'll be done with chemo.

We're going to celebrate with a very short walk this morning...before it gets too hot.  It's a wonderful day! smiley4smiley4

Wonderful day for sure! Wow this is such progress from just a week ago, it makes my sp_hearticon2happy to know Chance is eating and hoppy again.

Sounds like a good plan to me. It makes all the difference to think things through and commit to a plan doesn't it? One hop at a time as we like to say around here.

Remind me: do you have Cerenia, Entyce or other anti-nausea and appetite stimulant meds on hand, just in case? Would be good to ask about if not.

I hope your day is wonderful and the rest of the week too. Thanks for sharing.

So glad to hear Chance is having a wonderful day!!! SO GLAD HE IS FEELING BETTER!!!

All paws crossed ,for smooth sailing with next chemo.  Certainly  keep Vet in loop if  he throws up again.  I know the Vet kind of dismissed it.  Also, did the Vet suggest anything to improve the anemia?

You've  done a good job of assessing everything  and now you have a plan forwatd.

Cheering for you Chance!!!  You are a resilient  fella's, that for sure!!  And a very loved boy!

Hugs

Hoppy Friday!  Nice walk this morning with Chance and Kenya.  Using the kiddie wagon to allow Chance to walk-rest-walk-rest and enjoy the beautiful weather with sister Kenya.  He's continuing to do well, eating and drinking well, and interested in his toys.  Agree Jerry...what a turn around!

I have the anti-nausea meds prescribed for him but no appetite stimulant.  I'll ask the dr next time we talk.  Good to have on hand like you said!

I've been adding some beef liver to their (both Chance and Kenya) morning meal but need to look at other foods or supplements to try to help with the anemia.  I read b12 is a good supplement, also lots of other meats/veggies that I can use to make a home-made meal.  I'll work on that this weekend and introduce it to Chance in preparation for next week's round 2 of chemo!

Looking forward to a relaxing weekend!  Enjoy everyone!

Oooh we can't wait to see the kinds of tasty meals that come out of your kitchen! Have fun experimenting, I'm sure Chance and Kenya will love the new eats.

You have a beautiful weekend yourself. Enjoy the turnaround, it's such a great victory!

Round 2 of chemo is done (Tuesday) and so far so good.  Fingers crossed that the 20% decrease in dosage and starting antibiotics today will keep us from having a reoccurrence of Chance's first chemo session.  This morning he was a little picky about eating, didn't want to eat his food but I did start putting his Dasuquin in his morning meal...I just crumble it and mix it in with his normal food.  He ate some but I ended up making his back-up fav meal--scrambled eggs and turkey bacon.  He ate that right up!

We're already scheduled for follow up CBCs for the next two weeks to continue checking his white blood cells and platelets.  As long as he doesn't have a repeat from the last chemo, we'll keep going with his treatments.  Otherwise, we'll be done.

He's been doing great...loving his walk-rides, slowly increasing the time walking vs riding although I think he kinda likes being toted around! smiley4

Paws crossed for continued health and happiness!

Wooohoo! These paws will stay crossed until he's out of the clear for side-effects. I'm so happy things are uneventful for him, you guys deserve it.

You forgot pics! I'd love to see him in his chariot 😉

Got a little nervous  when you said he didn't  eat.  But very relieved  to hear he ate turkey bacon and eggs!!!!  YAY!!!

Definitely  keeping all paws crossed in Tripawd Land for an uneventful interim between all chemos!

Another morning and Chance doesn't want his regular food but willing to gobble down scrambled eggs and turkey bacon, so I guess I won't worry about it...yet.  He does seem to be having trouble pooping today so will need to keep an eye on that. Otherwise, his energy and attitude are good.  Photo is from our walk last night.  My nephew decided to join us but wanted to ride with Chance every time he hopped into the wagon.  I definitely got my workout in last night!

Adorable photo!!  Two happy campers.

You may want to keep the Onco in the loop about Chance not eating and the poop issue.  I know he ate the good yummies.  I say thos NOT to alarm you in ANY way.  In a "normal" chemo situation,  this may not be ,unexpected at all.  But because  o f Chance's prior reaction amd this is  a reduced amount, I would just be super aware 9f even the slightest  changes...especially  with the week end coming up.  I'm sure nothing to worry about..... just being overly  cautious.

Tha ks for sharing that smile making picture😊

I am glad Chance is doing better. Just catching up on some of your recent posts. I am not totally sure if iron binds up dogs, but I know it is very common for foods high in iron to bind people up (myself included). Will look to see how you make out calling the vet. I would definitely let them know every little change for sure!

A lot of people here give pumpkin for diarrhea, but I think because it is a good fiber food it may do the same thing for constipation. I used it for my kitty Falcor who had mega colon and had an awful time going. It worked well.

I am pasting a link here for liver treats. I make it with some oatmeal mixed into it and Bo AND the cats love it. Maybe this will be a tasty treat that will also be helpful. I have made batches and then froze half of them for later too.

I love your photo, that is just so sweet sp_hearticon2

Chance is doing well so far.  I did end up calling the dr about Chance's constipation and she got me some more meds.  He's pooping again although back to being pretty soft stool but at least he's poopiconing!  We went on several walks this weekend, just around the neighborhood.  I can see an obvious decrease in his energy levels for walking but I think it's probably the heat as much as the chemo.  When I got the Ruffwear harness , I purchased the cooling chest padding so I think that's helping.  Also taking water along on the walk/rides...even at 9am it's already hot!

He has an appt tomorrow for a CBC to check his bloodwork so hopefully that's be good news!  Will just have to keep an eye on it and pray that we don't see another huge drop between week 1 & 2 CBCs!  Fingers crossed!
