Hi Y'all.  I am thrilled to report that Bubba is doing amazing... too amazing.  It has been so hard to keep him from playing and jumping. I called the vet and she said that he will be fine and to let him go outside as long as the surgical site stays clean and he doesn't roll in the dirt.  So now maybe he will get that ticked  look off his face lol. I did forget to ask her about 1 thing and maybe you guys can answer it. Ever since he got home on Friday, he has been having very loose stools. This morning he went out and did his business #1 &#2 and came back in. A half hour later he wanted back out and I thought he just wanted to go out an play in his yard.  He would come and look at me and go back to the back door.  I just ignored him.  Wrong Move.  He finally quit pestering me and laid down.  I got up to go the bathroom and found a huge surprise waiting for me.  There was a whole lot of runny poop on the floor. And wouldn't you know that is the only room in this house thats carpeted!!! Anyways.. can that still be the effect from his surgery? Or maybe his current meds Clindimyicin, Rimadyl, and Tramadol? Would it help to give him some pumpkin to maybe settle things down a bit?

Thanks so much

Tracy & Bubba

Your story made me grin (even though it's no fun cleaning up poop messes) because my Lucian was bugging my husband to get up (I was in the bathroom getting ready for work and heard him barking) and he too thought he was just wanting to play so he ignored him.  After a bit Lucian came and stared at me so I went to take him outside and when we came back in (after him not doing anything) I looked over and saw hubby's tennis shoe with a nice big pile of poop on the toe.  It was the most hilarious thing and I went and got hubby out of bed to show him and take a picture.  It's funny how they get our attention when they need to go potty.

Anyway...I didn't have loose stool problems with my Leland after the amp surgery.  He was straining to poop and come to find out chewed up 3 catheters when he was at the clinic.  He was pooping medical tape and colored gauze for several days.  Needless to say we were not happy that he wasn't watched closer at the clinic.  We asked if he was wearing the cone and they said they didn't put it on him because he was in the eye sight of the techs at all times.  Not sure where they were all at when he ate 3 catheters.  The other thing that upset us was nobody told us this happened when we picked him up and the only way we found out was because we took the gauze/tape poop and showed it to the surgeon when Leland got his staples out.  And they had the nerve to say "we didn't charge you for the 3 catheters he tore up and they're pretty expensive"...mad

So it could be medicine related.  I am glad that Bubba is doing so well and he's getting back to his feisty self.

Hang in there you're doing great!

Yours was a great story too.  I bet your hubby didn't think it all that great though.  That is absolutely ridiculous that they didn't tell you all the stuff Leland had ingested. I would have been super ticked. And THEN to say something stupid about not charging you!! They should realize how lucky they are that you are a nice person.  BTW How do they take the staples out?

Wow Sahana, I wouldda been pretty darn mad about that too!

So about Bubba....loose stools are generally not the issue with recovery, usually it's the other issue, not pooping at all. I'm wondering if his stomach might be upset from the Rimadyl. Make a note of the color of the poo, is it runny or slimy, is there anything in it? Ah yes, the pet pawrent responsibilities we have...poop patrol! Anyhow, let your vet know to be on the safe side. If there is GI upset from the Rimadyl that needs to be resolved asap so give them a call.

Along with the loose stools, I also was questioning the way Bubba's stitches looked so I went ahead and took him into town and stopped by our vets office. Everyone was oooohing and awwwwing over how wonderful he was doing.. made me such a proud mama!! She said that often times, dogs will get colitis after surgery and asked me is pooh was slimy looking or not.. and it was so thats what she said it was.  So she gave me some medicine to help with that.  I thought that his staples looked weird in one particular spot but she assured me that they were absolutely perfect.  She was amazed at how little swelling he had and only 1 small spot of bruising. A few of the assistants came out to see how he was doing and of course he loved all that attention.  They all told me that he was the nicest pit bull they had ever worked with-that no matter how much they twisted and pulled on him he never once wimpered, let alone growl.  So I am a very proud Mama! It just proves that no matter what kind of dog breed it is, if they are never shown meanness and only love and kindness, you will get back love and kindness from your dog.  I don't know what the future holds... don't even know yet if its OSA, but we have done the best for our boy and we are going to love and enjoy him every single day for the rest of his life---may it be a long one!!!

I'm glad your vet is figuring out what is going on with Bubba's loose stools and that she's given you something to help with that.  And we're all proud of Bubba here as well and are looking forward to following him on this journey!!

And you are so right regarding dog breeds.  My parents have had 2 pitbulls and they both were extremely sweet and friendly.  My husband and I love the Doberman breed and after we had to let our Leland go we now have Lucian (7 month old Dobie pup).  With Leland people were always asking if he would attack or bite them (he was 108lbs and pretty tall) and we would explain that he's just a big love bug.  Leland loved greeting people and getting loved on.  Like you said it's all in how these breeds are raised and if they're shown love they will give love.  It's a shame that society just lumps all dogs of a particular as bad.

You and Bubba keep up the good work...you both are doing GREAT!!
