Polli- my almost 10 year old brood mom, greyhound is 2 months post amutation- left from leg and will have her 4th chemo tomorrow.

She resumed her walking with her pack (I have 4 greyhounds) although she did not walk as often or as far. but she was walking .5 mile 2x a day untill about 10 days ago when she decided she only wanted to do 1 walk a day. And when she did walk, she was only walking on the easement- the grass betweent the houses and the street.

Toward the end of last week, she no longer wanted to walk -well, she WANTED to walk in spirit, but wouldn't. We were now carrying her up and down the steps which we hadn't done in weeks. Her back is arched like a Halloween cat, her back legs look wobbly, somewhat dragging. She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow for Chemo # 4 but I am really scared.

I put her back on deramaxx. The weird thing is that she honestly doesn't seem to be in pain. She is happy, vocal - but just laying there, which greyhounds tend to do anyway.

Does this sound like LS? I know I will know something tomorrow, but I am afraid to know.

Anyone?

Hi RobinM,

We've been without internet access for the last couple of days, which is why we just now approved your post. If you'd like it to be approved sooner, be sure to join Tripawds as a member, and your questions will instantly appear like magic!

So sorry to hear that Polli isn't feeling well, but it's good to know she's seeing the vet tomorrow. We can't even begin to guess why she's uncomfortable on walks, there are so many reasons. Lots of people here have had the same issues with their Tripawds, and the reasons were all very different. I know it's hard not to speculate, but you'll drive yourself crazy doing it. The best thing to do is hang in there till tomorrow, and do your best to stay pawsitive. Try some gentle massage along her spine too, especially along the top near her remaining leg.

Let us know as soon as you can what the vet thinks the problem is, and then maybe we can be of more help once we have a possible diagnosis. Until then, we send our love and good thoughts your and Polli's way.

Robin,

That doesn't sound like the onset of LS I have had in greyhounds of the past, but I'm not sure how it will present in a tripawd. Unfortunately, a high percentage of greyhounds do develop this illness. Although, it is a progressive illness, there are things to do to help along the way. I have used the Depo injections as well as acupuncture. Both gave my greyhounds relief and a better quality of life! Here is Dr. Suzanne Stack's Site & instructions for the injection

Other things to look at might be is it getting cold where you are? Is she not able to lead the pack any longer (if she did in the beginning)? Is she still going for her potty times and not just the walk? If so, maybe the chemo has her too tired to walk right now.

I hope the doctor can give you some resolution to this when you visit. We'll be saying a prayer for her!

Hi Robin,

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice for you, either, but I did want to wish you the best of luck when you find out what is wrong with Polli when you see the vet.  I will be sending pawsitive thoughts your way in hopes that it is nothing serious.  Please let us know what you find out.
