Hi Alicia,

I'm moving in with you guys. If the dog get eggs, pasta, and cheese what does the hired help get. wink Sounds like Pixie is on the road to recovery. That's great. So tonight she only gets baked chicken with rice and broccoli. Sounds good here, what time should I show up?  Fortis wouldn't know what to do with people food unless that is, it was a raw slab of steak or a young uncooked chicken! He hasn't let me forget that 6 months is around the corner and he wants his steak and moo stick like handsome boy Wyatt got!!!!

I hope Pixie and continues to improve. I know she is going to amaze you and your son with all she can do.

Fortis'Dad,

Brett

Alicia,

I am so sorry to hear what your son has had to go through! oh-my  That flesh-eating bacteria is scary stuff for sure! But your son is so lucky to be alive!!! smiley Thank God for that!!!

I'm glad to hear that the pain meds have helped Pixie to feel better!!! smile Now you just have to worry about making sure that she doesn't overdo it while she's recovering... The seroma is pretty normal... just fluid buildup after the surgery... Be sure to watch it and make sure it doesn't start to smell funky as that would indicate an infection. But as long as she's on her antibiotics and you keep her incision clean... she should be fine.

In the meantime... just keep spoiling her with all that yummy food... and lots of love and kisses!!! winker

Leslie, my son is doing well, he is 19 months out from illness/amputation. He had necrotizing fasciatis, the flesh eating bacteria, from a cut to his foot that just took over. No one is sure exactly what happened, as he was found in a coma after not being seen in a week, he lived on his own, and at the time was 21, so a week is not unusual to not be in touch with one of us. He was in ICU then rehab for 2 months, then home to us in January 2009 and has been here since. He has numerous other injuries and problems that went along with the illness and so he will be here another year of so, longer if he has his way! Thanks for asking.

Oh my!  You are so very lucky to have your son!  Oh! I can't even imagine!  I now understand why you said he was taking Pixie's amp hard.  He still has a lot of emotional healing to do, I would bet!   I would also guess he has almost post traumatic stress from it.  I would!  But he is alive and what a blessing you and your family has been given!

And between him and Pixie you have been given some amazing second chances of having your loved ones with you.   I know you do, but treasure them and feel blessed everyday.  I have had several losses and mine are all sudden. And to have a second chance makes me very happy for you!  Can you rub some of your good luck on me?laugh

This reminds me of the time I took Jack to downtown Seattle.  He was hopping down the street and this guy came up to us and said he wanted to let me know that it was so inspiring to see Jack - I asked him if he had experience with a dog that needed amputation, and he kind of paused and said "am an amputee".  Huh...I didn't even notice that he was missing an entire arm...
