The staples were removed this morning and surgeon is very pleased with the incision. We discussed the pathology report which confirmed OSA. The good news is the lymph node was clean! As were the lungs on day of surgery! I have sme vocabulary to look up but maybe some in the group can translate? Now we need to see the onc again and discuss chemo options.

right humerus mass: the initial tissue sections examined reveal a soft tissue mass composed of a dense sheet of neoplastic cells. These cells have large round, oval or irregular hyper chromatic nuclei with prominent nucleoli and have moderate to abundant amounts of amphophilic cytoplasm. Some neoplastic cells are multinucleated. There are about 30 mitotic figures seen in 10 high power fields examined. This neoplasm extends into bone tissue where there is extensive bone necrosis. In some areas of sheet neoplastic cells exhibit formation of irregular trabeculae ofosteoid matrix material. In other areas there is dense fibrous connective tissue intermixed with neoplastic cells.

Right axillary lymph node: there is moderate hyperplasia of the lymphoid follicles.

Microscopic description:

right humerus mass: osteosarcoma

right axillary lymph node: no tumor metastasis observed

Hello Mary.

I'm also mom to a Golden - 6 1/2 yr old boy named Johnnie, front-leg amp from OSA.  Our option was for chemo, carboplatin, and Johnnie was able to complete the six prescribed rounds.  He handled it very well.

There are many experienced moms and dads that can pitch in.  Keep on posting!

Daniela & Johnnie

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet.   Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues.   Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle.  October 17:  started having seizures.  Taking fenobarbital for seizures.  April 18: started prednisone.

Hi Mary,

Sorry just saw your post now. Although we also dealt with osteo, I'm not versed in pathology report language but generally studies have shown that the higher mitotic number, the lower chances of longer survival times. This Forum post explains more.

Ask your vet where this one lies, but remember that statistics are just that, they don't take into account your dog or their health, DNA, etc. As we like to say, nine out of ten statistics are wrong! Definitely ask your vet to interpret this and let us know what they say. Blaze has a LOT of things working for him, that is definitely great news.

Wait! We need to do a YAAAAAAAAAY FOR BLAZE!!! He got his stitches out and no lymph node involvement! His sparkle should continue to return bigger and brighter than ever!! It did take my Happy Hannah about three weeks before she was off all pain meds though!

Yeah, I never understood all that mumbo jumbo either! And I've been on the site long enough to know it really doesn't mean much anyway!! Every single dog is so different!

My Happy Hannah had four rounds of carboplatin and had no issues at all! Some dogs have a little nausea and some may be a touch lethergic and off food for a day or so. They give you some anti nausea pills and appetite pills should you need them.

Just look st each day as a bonus day NEVER to be wasted EVER!! Just stay in the bliss of that MOMENT, just like Blaze is doing!!

Rock on Blaze!!!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
