Otis wasn't on the Palladia for very long, and I guess I never really got the hang of it.  He did get Pepcid A/C (much less expensive!) which helped, but I did give the Cerenia twice.   (Talk to your onco about the Pepcid A/C.   Otis never actually stopped eating or vomit (even when on carboplatin).   For him, nausea expressed in excessive drooling and lip smacking.   Some dogs will turn away from food, or just express less interest in it.   Otis would also generally be laying down, but "at attention," almost overly alert.  With the carboplatin, I kind of knew when in the cycle to give it.   Since you give the Palladia more often, I didn't want to give Cerenia every time he got the Palladia - although I know that Pofi gets it the evening of every Palladia dose.   For what it is worth, I also noticed that he had more nausea and indigestion problems if his stomach got too empty (hence, the middle of the night feedings).

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Hi - we did just try about a week of Palladia with Pepcid rather than Cerenia, but I picked up Cerenia again to start with tonight's Palladia.  Pofi does not get dramatically sick from Palladia and I think that it is not super common for them to get very sick now that the commonly used guideline is a lower # of mg per pound of dog's weight.

My onco says simply, "before" and so I aim for 1/2 an hour or an hour prior.  There have been times I give them together.

I think you really could try Pepcid only - I think we could continue that way.  But Pofi is a bit of a fussy eater - mornings meals are never easy and seem to require more coaxing morning after Palladia.  I think that when I give Cerenia, there is no noticeable inapetance in the morning and with Pepcid, there is just a little.  With neither it is much more noticeable and he seems like he is visibly uncomfortable.

It really is a bit of trial and error!

Try both and keep a journal - you can decide if Pepcid is adequate.

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

We gave Shea the palladia yesterday and the cerenia last night. No real issues last night. She ate well. Today she was burping a bit, which is kind of unusual for her. So I decided to try the Pepcid. I haven't heard any burps since I've been home from work.  She's not really showing any signs of nausea and there has been no vomitting. But she just looks like she doesn't feel well. I'm hoping she starts to perk up a little. But she gets palladia again on Saturday. So I'm afraid it's just going to be a cycle that as soon as she starts to feel better it's time to do it again.

Hi - it is so easy to worry about these things.  But try not to over anticipate here - I think I once read that with Palladia, if there were some bad stomach reactions, they often subside after initial doses.  I think you can give Pepcid twice daily with no issues and the Cerenia should cover nausea for 24 hours.  Maybe next time try Pepcid an hour before and then again 12 hours later.  Don't worry till you really need to  - it seems to me like she did okay.

I was noticing a bit of the same, but also received the same advice that it might get better.  He had a dose on Friday, and that day and Saturday were great days, so might already have been turning a corner.  But I know how hard it is - we want the Palladia to extend life, but not at the expense of quality, and where is that line?
