Our pup (7 mos?) Henry is a recent rescue and amputee (December 2, 2011). He has recovered amazingly but is beginning to show signs of pain and/or weakness. We've gone onto CARE to find out how to help him with stretching, but I worry that he's losing a bit of his exuberance and he seems to get tired so easily. Also, he seems to be more sensitive than he was even a week ago. And when he poos, he is practically sitting in it, whereas a week ago, he was higher off the ground.

Is there something that might help him either relax or ease some of the pain he might be feeling? We are looking into local CCRP options but until we find one we like, I want to make him as comfortable as possible. Oh - his amputation is the back-left leg and it was the result of being hit by a car. frown

Anyone have any short-term advice?

Thank you!

Thanks for asking, your future forum posts will not require moderation.

Rear-leggers tend to take a bit longer to build strength. Stick with the exercises and stretching and he'll be surprising you before you know it. Just make sure he is exercising within his limits and not getting lots of explosive exercise, running, long walks, etc.

When you say you've "gone onto CARE", have you consulted with the doctors there? If so, make sure you're doing your homework. If not, please consider seeing a rehab specialist.

Thank you for the quick response! We've just watched a few videos and printed information from the CARE website but we will be consulting with a local CCRT here in the next few days.
