My girl Nova has been yelping out in pain a few times a day and I can't figure out why. She is about 1 month post amp. Each time it appears to be a sudden jab of pain, and then it is over. I can't really trace it to anything in particular. Sometimes it happens when she is standing, sometimes when she is laying down. Could this be just phantom pain from the missing limb? She hasn't had any falls or bumped into anything. She otherwise is doing great, eating and drinking well, and getting around a lot. I have run my hands over her remaining limbs and body looking for sore spots, and she doesn't seem to have any.

We are going for her second round of chemo tomorrow so I plan to ask the Doctor about this, but was just wondering if anyone had encountered this.

Hi Sue,

Wow, it sure sounds like phantom pain . Here's a blog post we did about it a while back, you may want to give the PDF a look, it might help you feel better.

Glad to hear everything else is going well! Let us know how the chemo goes.

Sounds like it could be phantom pain . Your doctor can prescribe gabapentin for it. Calamity had to take it for a while & it seemed to work for her horrid episodes.

Calamity has been "peeping" a lot outside in the snow and she seems so hesitant to go out. I'm sure she's scared of her new way of walking on the snow and will eventually get used to it.
