I'm delighted to hear that Ty is home :)

Right now I would feed him whatever he wants so you can build up his strength and get his meds into him.

There will be lots of time later to "fix" Ty's diet.

Sounds like he is feeling much better.....trying to get on the couch...good boy, Ty.

How about tuna fish?  Sardines?  Homemade meatballs in a chicken stock?  Anything with PB.  Bananas!  If he's like my dog, any vegetable!  Hot dogs?  Chicken WITH the skin on?

Let him eat whatever he wants.  Heck, serve it to him on the couch, once you help him up there.  Rest up, Ty!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

GOOD! His temperature is absolutely normal!! Yeah, right now pizza has value!!

Have you tried any of the canned cat food? Another crazy thing to try...toss pieces of chicken, hamburger, whatever..on the floor...make sure he sees you,and walk away......-especiallyif he's already up and moving. . Or toss it to him on the bed and walk away. Make sure it has NO pills in it. Funny, but sometimes that triggers so ething in them and they'll eat a morsel that way.

Ya' know, I cannot applaud you enough for staying committed to see this through to a positive solution. I KNOW it's hard to not see your boy feeling good. But remember, weakness is not unbearable...it's not a pain...it's just plain tired. And to have your husband feel so very differently From a loving place also) about the path you should take...that's tough. I'm sure Ty picks up on that e ergy too.

But your energy has to counter that! You must even be more upbeat! more outrageous with your "good boy"! Put the worries aside (ha! easier said than done, right?)! Approach him with such fun and joy in every fiber ofnyour being.

Gosh...there is so ething here others have tried...it's from GNC..I think....and it's so e type of gel that you can syringe nto their mouth...or they like it and eat it anyway. I hope someone sees this and knows what the heck I'm talking about. It's LOADED with vitamins!!

This HAS to be some type of nfection that is just waiting to be identified!!! I can't believe the vets aren't going crazy wild trying to figure thisout!! We all are!! You are!! We will!!!clap

He's STILL recovering from major surgery, high, high fever, not eating, so of course he's not himself!! I love the fact that he wanted up n his sofa! That's a sparkle coming back in my book!!

Stay here with us' okay? PLEASE do not go a day without posting at least TWICE to let us know how your boy is doing!!

Oh' and the world's worse techno techie non-typing no megabite non-gekk.......-sorry...I already own that title!way-cool

Sending lots of hugs!!

I have a very picky eater... we were giving Bailey anything she would eat.  Dog bones with peanut butter, pedilyte in water, gateraide in water... loved...  cooked lean hamburger (in a patty) in a pot on the stove soaked off the grease put a piece of cheese on it and hand fed it to her.  Cooked chicken on the stove the same way, put a little water in the pan and actually seasoned it lightly with Lawyers seasoning like I would cook for myself... loved it.  Yogurt, Bailey loves yogurt, she ate the strawberry, blueberry and vanilla, no artificial sweetners... whole yogurt with fat.  (I found mine at SAMS Wholesale Club.)  Boiled chicken and rice and hamburger and rice is very bland.  My daughter told us just to cook it by itself on the stove in water and it made it's own juice.  Eventually we just broke up the hamburger and put in in her kibble and we are still playing little games... I mixed regular pumpkin (2 tablespoons) with vanilla yogurt last night to help her GI system.  Bailey loves PB so I would use crackers or milk bones and feed her.  She doesn't like eggs no matter how you fix them.

But it was a start for us just to get her to drink but she loved the WalMart brand pedilyte it has a little sugar in it but it was getting fluids in her.

I'm rambling... but Bailey (138 pounds) had amp on 2/7 and first round of chemo on the 2/27 (weighed 125) and she still is sometimes just eating one meal a day so I'm giving her whatever she will take to convince her to eat.

Hope things go better.  I know all vets are different, but my great dane weighs 125 and her fever range according to what my vet suggested is normal 99.5 - 102.5.  But I know every vet is different.  Are they giving her Pepcid AC (generic) at all.  Bailey could not take that it took away her appetite. Just throwing some things out there, no fur baby is the same.  Please keep the faith.

Saying prayers,

HUGS

Tracy and Bailey

He is taking Pepcid 1 time per day. Has not tried to get up on furniture anymoresadHe did , however eat a deer burger tonight. I cooked it in my George Foreman and gave it to him like treats, in chunks. Fever was between 102 and down to 100.9 this afternoon. He still seems reluctant to move around and seems stiff. I have to take him out on a leash to get him to move. I guess I have to remember how trashed I felt off and on for months after I had a major surgery and infection that would not leave. Heck, I could not make myself walk to the back of Target. He is just now not even 5 weeks out from his amp. Great idea using cat food, I got some today. Used the burger as that is what we were having.

Thanks for the update...and it's a good one! No fevsr!! Ate a deer burger!! YAAAAAAAY! That REALLY is good news!

I know you've mentined "stiffness" several times. Did the vets give you any response to that? You may have already done this, but has he been seen by a true Orthopedic Specialist?

And, I've probably asked you this before...when you massage up and down his spine, does he show any reaction to indicate pain?

Not wanting to move much after all he's been through is not surprising, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. And, as you said, you can certainly relate!!

Okay now, this is just between you and the tripawd community.....shhhhhh......... You had sepsis, right? It took awhile to digure out what was going on and then it took quite awhile to feel like doing anything again, right? Sooooo.......shhh......the next time your husband wants to give up on Ty...ask him if he would have put you "down"!smiley Just kiddi g of course!! But you can make a point since you and Ty seem to have some parallel s here!!Celebrate the normal fever and eating the deer burger!! That REALLY is an improvement...small improvement in so e scenarios..... but HUGE in this scenario!!

Sending hugs!

Sally and Happy Hannah

PS Try dry cat food as well as canned.

He ate another one tonight before his nightly dose on Doxy. You all will love this one. I have a Corgi who eats like a trucker. She will nab stuff form the other dogs' plates. So tonight, I have Ty'Doxy and probiotic wrapped in cheese he spit it out and she grabbed it and swallowed in one gulp. I am going, het I need those pills. Silly girl. She did the same thing with a Gabapentin the other week. I gave her Pepcid right away and she was fine. I had a church mtg. Tonight and when I for home Ty was at the door to greet me. He is having such trouble using the 2 steps on our porch. I felt he was doing pretty good until he started drooling and the threw up egg white slime. I think the Rimadyl has to go. He seems to be sleeping well now though and tomorrow is a new day!!

Just for grins, jave you tried skipping the pepcid for a day or two? Or are you pretty sure that's not anissue and much more of a help. So his puke was just more slime? He kept his dinner down okay?

Ty IS dong good!! He IS improving!! Keepn keeping on Ty! We are all pulling for ya'! And quit droping yor pills onpurpose soyour Corgipal will eat them!

Oh my gosh Corgi, that is sneaky! You don't want that stuff, silly.

Doxy is strong stuff, I'd imagine that might be a cause of the vomit?

As for the Rimadyl, have you guys talked about switching to something else like Metacam? We've had trouble with Rimadyl and GI upset, and once we switched to Metacam everything was great.

And like Sally pointed out, Ty is improving!!! This is progress!!!

Thanks all!! I am going to try skipping the Pepcid. It was after he had that that he threw up. I think, all the meds run together. Have to write it down so I remember when I gave whatway-confused No food, just slime.I am going to a health food store today to look for goat milk. My neighbor may have some, but I do not want to feed him anything raw. Ate yet another deer burger, yes I agree seasoning helps. I put on garlic powder. He also likes them better cold???? I am probably at the end of him wanting these, as he will go on a food jag and then suddenly not want that food. Scrambled eggs are like dirt to him now.laughingI am going to stay away from the rimadyl also today, as he has had trouble with that before. Called vet but she does not want to change up anything unless he gets worse until Vector Borne panel comes back. He was drooling before he got sick last night and again this A.M. I gave him a big bowl of crushed ice and that seemed to help. Temp. normal also. He is on Carafate. Before, I was just giving him the pill, now the new vet has me dissolving it in some water and syringing it down his throat. Maybe that is the problem. Now that I am thinking, it was after that both times he drooled. Oh who knows...... His tail still works well. When I check his temp., I am holding it and my arm is swinging back and forth. I so appreciate you all listening to me ramble, as my family thinks I am pretty much a nutwhatever And Happy Hannah, I cannot believe your kindness, you are going through so much right now and you take time to reply to my silliness. All of you, I appreciate you more than you know!!!! Oh, and as for my corgi, If I am going to give her anything on purpose, it would be Ritalin. Just kidding, I now pen her in another room when doing meds.

Ty's tail is wagging and he's eating something and he has no fever...all great news!

The drooling is a sign of nausea. I think Pepcid is supposed to help that, but if it or the other med doesn't agree with him, maybe the vet can give him an anti-nausea injection?

You're doing such a great job with him!

Carol
