Had to fly to London for a meeting.  Gone two nights.  A friend stayed at my house with Otis and Tess.  I am so happy to be home.  Otis looks great - he is still getting a couple Tramadol a day, but it is 2 or 3 now, down from 9.  No chemo issues while I was gone, but I no sooner got home and took him out than he got diarrhea.  Was he saving that for me???  So, we have started a new medicine and are on a 24 hour fast.  After that, I am thinking brown rice, chicken breasts, any ideas?

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Aww what a special welcome home present! 😉

Stick with white rice, it's easier on the belly.

For runny poop we love using edible clay , it's miraculous. It's featured in these Tripawds Nutrition blog posts about diarrhea.

Aww Otis!  Sounds like the pain is getting better.

We have a ranch-style house, so Murphy doesn't really have to deal with stairs very often.  But our groomer works out of her house, in her basement.  The first time after his surgery that Murphy went was probably a couple of months after his surgery, and her husband helped him down the stairs with his ruffwear harness and was really careful and slow.  The next time was probably 6 months after his surgery...Jim took Cassie downstairs and Murphy followed, but before he could put Murphy in a crate, Murphy ran right back upstairs!  So then he had to get him back down again.  We all laughed so hard!  I said, "well, I guess stairs aren't a problem!"

Murphy had his right front leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma at 7 years old. He survived 4 years, 2 months & 1 week, only to be taken by hemangiosarcoma at 11 1/2 years 6/12/17

So far, no Tramadols needed today.   The panting and squeaking seems to be over and he is doing great.   Slept with me on the mattress last night, got up to greet a repairman who came this morning to fix my garage (car stuck inside when I needed to be at work!), and jumped up on the sofa to nap as I was leaving.  Normal poop (can't believe I am telling the world about poop, but oh well), so that is another relief.   Friend who checked on him mid-day says he was alert, active and not in any apparent pain.   Hooray!  It is so much easier to go to work knowing that he is doing better.

Sitting watching Otis and Tess sleep in the sun coming in through the window.  With no Tramadol in his system he is moving around more, greeting me in the kitchen when I get home, and getting on the sofa with ease (although interestingly he does not bark when someone comes to the door anymore - might be feeling vulnerable and unsure of his ability to protect the house?).  But for now, amazing how one day in the sun makes it all worthwhile!

Sure would like to see pictures of Tess and Otis sunbathing! Hint!

I think you'll find Otis will "findnhis voice" again as he recovers rully from the surgery. If I recall it took my Happy Hannah several weeks before she started greeting me at rhe door with her Woo Woo Woooo!

And a video of that when it happens will be fun too!

Not very tech savvy, I've seen the instructions on how to load photos, am also on a tablet which I think is part of the problem.  😕. Have been taking photos almost nonstop (Otis sleeping on bed, Otis sleeping on sofa, Otis and Tess sleeping in sun, Otis looking out window).  I probably need a hobby other than hovering over my dogs.

By the way, Otis has become a real mattress hog.  Both dogs used to sleep on one side of the mattress, leaving the other side for me.  Otis now sprawls out right in the center, full length across the bed.  Not sure how a dog could possibly take up more room.  Sleeping on his incision side a lot today - a good indication that he is not in pain from the site!

Otis is still doing really well, two more days of Rimadyl left but haven't needed any more Tramadols.  Also no further chemo related issues.  He greets me in the kitchen whenever I come home from work, but has been a bit anxious for the first couple of hours when I get home.  I think he gets overexcited when I get home, trying to jump around more than he should.  I am also sick of the snow - the yard is either muddy or snowy and it is not uncommon for him to slip a bit when he comes back in.  This weekend, we might try a walk to the front yard.

So happy to get this good update on that beautifully Otis!  Wow look how far you've come in a short while.  Our furfaces never cease to amaze me as do their humans!  You're doing a great job!
