Great recipes, I might have to try them myself -lol. Much of the nutrition info reminds me of the clean eating, whole food options for humans. Hmmm...

Finally got him to eat about 3/4 c cooked ground beef served a la room service, a little at a time. For dessert, a raw meatball with a bonus anti-vomit pill inside (shhhh, I hope Odin doesn't read my posts). Kept it down 2+ hours now. whew.

Yes, spoiling is on the menu! But last 24 hrs he turned his head at tried and true faves; peanut butter, chicken, even ice cream. No drool whatsoever. However, "big sis", quawdpaw Sky, was loving the experiments, as she got to sample some and offer advice. I'm so glad he tried the ground beef.

Hi,
My Craig got seroma but it was a problem from early on. He is a greyhound and they are more prone to developing them. I bet if he is healing well now with no real swelling, he will be fine. I have had Craig on gabapentin since surg in December and I think it has helped him to be more active. I hope this helps you.
Thanks, ALISHIA, Craig's mom

Thanks Alishia, I'd love to hear more about Craig,

I've mentioned Gaba. to my vet, but hasn't put Odin on it. We stopped the carprofen and went back to tramadol (he's also on 2 antibiotics). It's day 11 for him, and he's on 50mg of tram at night. We're still not sure why Odin isn't eating. He's drinking, so that's a relief.

Not sure it's pain causing decreased appetite. He started barking (well, ok, a small woof or 2) when kids get home, he'll even sit up and wait to be greeted, wagging his tail. Today during a potty outing, he played catch with a stick for a bit (sat while I tossed right at his nose). Wagged and spit it to me to do again. Tried tossing snacks to him the same way, but he won't take the bait. Yesterday I mixed up a treat of oatmeal, blackstrap molasses, pnut butter, powdered goat milk puppy formula and a wee bit of ginger. Compared to how non-hungery he's been, he loved it. Today? Not so much. Got his meds to him this morning around 10, then he vomited at 11 and hasn't eaten anything else today (its 7PM now). Hoping he'll take something with his medicines tonight so I don't have to give them the hard way.

How did Odin do last night?

If the meds are making him vomit, tell your vet, there will be a better combo that won't make him so nauseaus, which is what I think might be causing the lack of appetite now that you mentioned that.

Paws crossed for a healing week ahead.

No vomiting yesterday (Monday)! Odin did go to vet yesterday for anti-nausea shot, doggie penicillin shot, and while there, had his stitches out. Still no interest in food, even after the shot. He'll taste and eat 1-2 pieces, then either turn away, or spit out if more is offered. Tougher and tougher to give his meds to him. We were hoping to start chemo this week, but will wait for him to feel normal for a few days first. We've lessened his pain meds, but maybe too much? He now has one 50 mg tramadol at night. before that, we were giving carprofen, but he was still same. He also has a slight temp, so have been on 2 different antibiotic pills in addition to the shot (done with pills today).

At vet he was barking, wagging, happy to see vet, tech and resident pooch. even responded to some pee-mail by lifting a hind leg with gusto before deciding he wasn't ready to stand on 2 legs! Gave us all a good laugh. Then back to sleeping and not eating for rest of day. He is drinking, and not dehydrated so at least that's good.

Oh I'm glad he's not nauseated.

I would try to keep a consistent dose of tramadol right now, to prevent 'wind up' pain. The longer you wait between doses, the harder it is and the longer it takes to get the pain back under control. Talk to your vet about a different dosing schedule.

OK here's my theory; he is associating food with pills, and to him, that's just yucky. So anytime he thinks you're going to feed him, he's suspicious.

Whatever pills you have left, separate them from his meals, don't give them with food. You'll have to give it the ol' tough love and dose him by hand, without food, but you can do it! Here's a video that explains how:

I'm pretty sure that's what happened. I offered a small snack (can't recall item), he was eating hesitantly, but was still eating. I said "good boy!", he fixed me with this full on stare and then spat out the food and wouldn't touch anything else for a few hours. Due to tech difficulties, I can't view the video, so will have to watch on another computer. but had I to do over again, I would be more careful to not give pills w/ meals.

Pills are done now (for the moment). hoping he keeps associating food w/ "good" so we can move on. He's not vomiting, but burping something awful. Seems to be eating better, eating small meals/snacks throughout the day, but very picky about what he eats (wasn't picky before; he was a stomach on legs). No where near that now, but it's moving forward.

Glad to hear that the pill regimen is done. Have you mentioned the burping to your vet? I wonder but that could be a sign of GI upset from something else? Just throwing that out there. Hope you two are having a good day!

Great day

Odin ate kibble for the first time in two weeks today! big-grin This morning I was making the dogs their breakfast and when it was time to serve it, I couldn't find Odin. Turns out he went back to bed. Literally! He managed to get up on our bed (3' high!). Guess he thought he deserved breakfast in bed after all he's been through.

The fun part was getting him off the bed, as it's a no-no until he's more healed. And I had to go to work, so couldn't leave him there. Took all of 15 mins and made me late for work. But well worth it. Left msg for vet regarding burping, and overall good news about him eating.

Now on to chemo next week.....
